Sounds like a cold sore. Buy some abreva and follow the directions or campophonique. Here are two links that I use and find very helpful.

Add some extra vitamin C to your diet. Prevention is always better than treatment. caffeine addiction is a nasty one, try switching to caffeine free Pepsi, if not replace every second drink with something else. Add lots more water to your diet. (pepsi will dehydrate you making you want even more of it). I agree it could be really adding to your mouth problem. My partner was coca cola addicted, he stopped by finding a drink he really liked (in his case power-ade and coffee big M's) and did some replacing. Now he can go weeks without a coke. Good luck.

Sounds like an ulcer. I got one once (my mom said it was from eating too much candy ... ha ha) and I put Abreva (the cold sore treatment) on it and it went away pretty fast, like a couple of days.
