There are many documents, besides Mayans which point to a sort of 'end' of existence as we know it in December 2012.
Supposedly, in 2012 our solar system will be perfectly aligned with the galactic center. This hasn't occurred for nearly, well, I forget the exact date, but it's been speculated in occurred the time the dinosaurs became extinct.

My thoughts - the Mayan calendar is ending. But this means nothing, other than the calendar is to start a new cycle....
the Mayans beleived that the way to the underworld was through the Heavens. On Dec. 21, 2012, our solar system will "line up" with a region in the sky that APPEARS to have no stars (too faint to see without magnification). This is the area that the Mayans beleived to be the Underworld. New cycle will start from then on. BUt not the end of the earth. Happens every 25,000+ years....

Good question and I guess the only way to be sure is if we make it to 2013....... God's word is truely amazing... every single culture of the earth has a "flood" story in their early records.... The Mayans included... Lets just say that Noah's ark was a true event... This I believe by the way.... That could very easily explain what every ancient culture would have a similar story?....... There seems to be several different belief systems, biblical and non biblical, that seem to believe the world as we know it could be coming to an end...... I have also heard there is something in the Ancient Pyramids of Eygypt which seems to support the soon end of the earth as we know it..The good news my friend is that Christians have hope....We can go to heaven and be with the Lord.....You will see a lot of athiests on this site mocking Christians and this belief..... But I can guarantee my friend it is the truth...
I dont know if you are a believer or not.... But if you are not and you do this one thing it could change your life and give you peace no matter what happens in your life...Please read the Gospel of John in the bible.. It would take you less than a hour.....This is the best book in the bible to start reading... It will tell you all about Jesus and his ministry on Earth..... The disciple John, who was an "eye witness" of the things Jesus did on Earth wrote this..... They did not have CBS or FOX news in AD 30 but people wrote things down.... Even the Historian Josephus wrote about Jesus.. God Bless you my friend.
If you want to be a Christian, pray to Jesus and ask him for forgiveness of your sins... Believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.... Do this my friend and you will become a Christian..... Christians will have all eternity with God to learn about the unexplained wonders of this world....

May be the year of the Antichrist!
but Less than 6 years, I don't see how the earth will be ready for him!
That is a system in place for world leadership, and more law against Christians!

It's not really a doomsday, just the end of this cycle. Perhaps the beginning of the next ice age or perhaps a miraculous new age of prosperity, or maybe the supervolcano will blow. Who knows?
