When I started driving I was taught to be respectful and warn oncoming traffic if a police car was up ahead. Do you do this? Have you ever heard of it before?

I have been guilty of this, but think it is actually illegal to do. At least where I live!
I also flash the headlights to warn of any danger ahead. Maybe a car has crashed and is blocking the road, or there are horses loose and it could create a danger.
I have also been guilty of flashing headlights when you know the oncoming car has their lights on high and it is killing your eyes. Again i think that is actually illegal.

Yes, I was taught to flash your lights to oncoming traffic to warn people of a police car ahead. I do it on occasions.

I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT, so i actually put a headlight flasher in my car. It alternates my high beams back and forth. I use it whenever I'm responding to a call along with the other warning lights in my car. I wouldn't suggest flashing your headlights unless it is an emergency. It is illegal in many states, and can also cause road rage. Always check your local laws and regulations. As for warning others of emergency vehicles, that's why we have warning lights and sirens. Please just pull to the right, slow down, and give the emergency vehicle the right-of-way.
Thanks, and drive safe.

driving defensively is what it is ,you cannot warn other drivers of an officer that is ahead by flashing your headlights at them, some people are so inconsiderate they think that you are being rude, only to find out that they did not see the patrol officer down the road ,you can use your courtesy and respectfulness by being on the lookout for the imprudent and the wayward, take care ,delmy d

Definately it's just good road manners. It's just like when you flash someone at night who hasn't put their lights on, or to give people the right of way at night and when they drive fast they flash you in thanks.
And no-one wants to give the police the satisfaction of a road fine as well.

yes.. & yes.. doesn't everybody? however i would wait until i was far enough away that the cop does not see me do it. Also u might want 2 turn off your head lights while leaving your parking lights instead of using your highbeams, to keep from brighting people. one more thing.. i kow that it is sneeky but if i was speeding and think that the cop might come after me i will not warn other cars hoping that they might get pulled over instead.

Some states if you are cuaght doing this, it could result in a ticket for the person flashing. I only do it now to warn other drivers to switch to their low beams.
