She asked why there were so many different religions if there is only one God.

My question is this?

IS there only one God?
How many Gods ARE there?

How do you know for certain that the God you worship is the RIGHT one?

>>>No-one knows the answer to that so why even ask?<<<<

And yet you accept it on blind faith alone that you are correct?!

Wars have been fought over it. People have died over it.

I believe there is one God, and that He is relational and makes Himself known to us if we seek to know Him.

take a book - any book and give 10 people a chapter - i can guarantee you 9 out of 10 will have a different interprutation based upon their own life experiences. i see that every day look at something like a wedding - each person's experience is different from the next. there used to be a camp game where the leader was in the center and the kids stood around - each person had a different view - the couns. did the exact same thing in front of them all - yet they all say something different.
when my family gets together adn we talk about an event - even we have different perspectives.
I do not believe there are multiple God's, just one God - but in my Polish heritage we call Him Bog - as in Bog Zaplac - God Bless! it's the same God, just a different language.

--even people who claim not to be of any denomination and follow only God in their manner -- are still living under the teaching of their parents, friends, etc. their life experiences alter their perception.

Blind faith?

Not blind faith. When you read the Holy Bible, not the coran or the jehovah's witness', or the morman's bible. Just the Holy Bible. And you completely understand why God said the things he said and you understand that he said He is a jeolous God and to not worship Idols or other Gods. The Holy Spirit imprints it on your soul and you know it to be correct. It is very hard for many to wrap their head around that concept and the concept of Jesus and the Holy spirit all parts of one God. People changed the original Bible. It was written by God through the Holy Spirit imprinted on the writers soul. That is how you know there is only one God. And since there are so many who couldn't understand. Changing the bible made many Gods. Gods Word tells we should not change the words of the Bible and it's message. I pray you find all your answers.

I'm not sure if i believe or don't believe...
But this is one of the main reason that make me not believe, because surely if there was a god then he wouldn't allow people to worship other gods?!
I think people need something to believe in and something to pray to and ask for guidance. They want this god to exist to blame for all the wrong doings and thank for all the good things. Just so they can't blame them selves!
Or if god does exist than surely there has to be more than one... there would be one for every god in every religion there is!!!

I think you might enjoy the Urantia Book. Then again, you may not being Atheist, and I'm sure your Christian family did not delve into this book as a past-time for their religion, but it is explained in this book that the One God, True Father, created entities to create, and sub-create galaxies, sub galaxies and so forth. These entities call themselves God as well, as they are exactly that. They are all considered a Son of God. Showing again that we are all children of God, and also gods, etc....

A great question, one to get one thinking. I like it.

We don't know.. We just know what we believe in our hearts, which is called faith, is true. Which is why there might not be just one God, or perhaps there is and we just all pray to that same God differently and celebrate our faith differently as well. There also is no right way to worship. I mean the church, temples, and so on will tell you the right way to worship in their religion, but it's what lies within your own heart and mind that is right. It's funny because there really is no positive answer, and anyone who says there is one is a complete fool in religion. Blocked by his own naive thinking. Sara.

There is 1 and only 1 God, period. How do I know this- because I know and understand some of the laws of the original religion of all religions-the jewish religion. Any good christian has to also know about the old testament as well. Read the old testament or look into the Torah!

One might say that there is only one God, and that this God has been known by many names since time began.

However, in ancient cultures, there was a God for just about everything.... And each one was considered separate, with a head God over them, such as the Greek God Zeus, who ruled over Athena, Neptune, Ares and many others.....

Knowing that there are thousands of God since time begain only leads this mind to one logical conclusion - that Gods are figments of imaginations of ancient people who knew of no other explanations for things such as lightning (not magical spears from Thor...)

I suppose I would have to ask another question. Why would multiple gods make more sense than One God? Also I invite you to read read my response to Spookshow Baby's question. I disciplined myself not to give such long answers. I think it is short enough. Let me know what you think.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He let the light of His face shine upon you.

P.S.
I may not be able to respond quickly. I am on my way to do evening prayers.

I don't. But I have faith and believe that Jesus Christ is the one true God. The way I see it, why spend your whole life messing up, sinning, ect. die, and find out that Jesus Christ was the true God, but now since you've never asked for forgivness, you ahve to brun in hell forever. Instead, live according to the Bible, don't sin and accept Christ as your personal Savior, die and go to heaven.
