A creditor can advise you about the debt, ask for updated information (address, place of employment, phone number, spouses information).

Other then that not much they can say. They can ask when payment will be made and advise you of your rights as well (like it can be placed on your credit report with in 30 days of it listing in collections).

Everyone is protected by law, its called the "fdcpa"" Federal Debt collections practices act" If they are harassing you tell them you know the FDCPA and you are going to report them... They will back off... Or just report them

once it starts becoming threatening or hostile than it becomes harassment. they can only ask for payment, phone numbers, addresses, place of work etc.

get a tape recorder.

tell them you are taping.

or just dont take their call.
