Or is good spellcasting more of an art than a science?

I'd say both. There's an alchemical element, but without an understanding of why those things work, you're not going to get very far. There's also a faith element and an emotional connection to what you're doing. Think of it as a mindful, purposeful, interactive prayer in which you become a co-creator.

Focus and intention make for good spellcasting. Those who are good at it are coming from the source of their deepest truth and creating the spell as they go. They can follow a recipe or make it up as they go, but there are three fundamental steps

- Focus and intention (spell)
- Take action to make it happen
- Letting go or surrender .... This is the most important part. When we are no longer attached to outcome spirit can bring us what we want. Since spells do work, I always work with the intention that the outcome is for the highest good of all; this means that I can end up doing a 360 mid-stream. To me this is the true definition of magic!

So I guess what it all "boils down to" is this; spellcasting could be considered both an art (our own ingenuity and creativty) and a science (quantum physics).

Thanks for your question :)

Words that have been spoken for centuries have real
spiritual power. Magical tools, to me, are just crutches. They
work, but what would you do in a spiritual emergency if you
didn't have them?
Fetishes are just an extension of the spirit within. And the
Ultimate Magician creates his own form of magic.
Therefore, I propose Christian Magick.
The only words of power you need to know, are the names of the Godhead. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Like all words of power. They won't do a thing if you use them at the last minute. So practice, practice , practice.
The book of Galatians says, "Now that you have known God, why turn again to the weak and beggarly elements. Do you
again wish to be in bondage."
Those who presume to control spiritual forces at this material
level, only bind themselves more to those things. And there
will be karma to work out in the spirit world as well with beings
we abuse.
Why would one want to waste so much energy and create
negative karma, by trying to enslave a few spiritual beings.
Who will turn on their master if they get the chance. When
they could have an army of spiritual beings to help, if they
simply asked through love.

All of the above. There's some science connected to it. One, small, example would be Lavander. It's been used for spellcraft, usually for dreams, peaceful sleep, etc. Today, in society, it is used in soap, as well as tea, to help people relax.
I look at spells more like types of prayers and meditation with certain focus points, such as candles.

Not to scientific. All of it is pagan beliefs and stuff. Witchcraft. Really hard though. Works when you get it right though, pretty cool.

Spells are mind games. Their only affect is as a placebo.
