The best way to learn is to practice in conversation. Do you know anyone who speaks Spanish that you could talk to? Watching TV in Spanish with the subtitles may be a decent substitute if you don't have anyone to converse with, also hang out in Spanish chat rooms, all of these things will help. The books and tapes are nowhere near as helpful as throwing yourself into the culture where you can actually hear it and speak it.

Hello!

Good luck on your learning... I speak Spanish as my native language and when I started learning French, what I loved doing was renting a French movie at least once a week, and seeing it without the subtitles... then I could see it with subtitles... the thing is that you "train" your ear to familiarize itself with the language, the sounds, the words....

Also, if at all possible, try to find Spanish speaking people around your neighborhood that would help you practice your Spanish, that always helps, to try and have a conversation with someone who speaks the language.

For me, movies, TV and actually talking in the language you're learning is the best in order to advance your skills.

Good luck, or should I say Buena Suerte, Chico!

Y.

You've got the right idea... get out there and practice whatever Spanish you know... the more you immerse yourself in it, the more you will learn. If you have Spanish TV stations available to you, watch them. Whatever you can do to surround yourself with the language will be a big help! You may not grasp it all overnight, but little by little you will see improvement!

Wow, I wish you would talk to my high school students! They have the mindset that "in math class, we do math; in Spanish class, we do Spanish" and they never see that it's something they can use OUTSIDE of class.

¡Suerte¡

All you have to do is talk to hispanics and use the little that you know and the rest I'm sure our race will help you out I would if I came accross somebody that needed to learn the culture. Like my brother in law he's black and he talks perfect spanish. If you really want to learn you will!! Listen to spanish music, watch spanish shows also.Good Luck.

If you happen to be in a room with a TV on it, turn it on and then just put any hispanic channel on it. You can be doing any other activity in the room but just for hearing things in spanish your ears will slowly start catching some stuff. After a while you might even start understanding them. It's easy to learn how to write and say something in another language. But it's hard to listen to them and actually understand them without hearing it long enough. Trust me, it worked for me.

Listen to Spanish music, hang out with Hispanic people and ask them how to say stuff. Go online and search for ways to learn Spanish.

The most important thing you can do is talk to native speakers. Go to a Mexican restaurant and order in Spanish, go to a peruvian festival, as people on the street the time. Whatever it takes to practice your verbal spanish. Really listen to what they say (phrases they wont teach you in the textbooks) and how they say them, otherwise you will sound like a stupid gringo.

If possible, immerse yourself with a Spanish speaking family. Also, as you mentioned, listen to the radio, the Spanish news, etc. Try communicating with people who speak Spanish. Don't be embarrassed to make mistakes, they will guide you through and let you know how to pronounce or formulate your sentence. Buena Suerte!!

Yes! You should listen to spanish music, spanish radio, or spanish TV!

It will help!

Also it will probably be best to have a native speaker from Spanish as your teacher. Or maybe a private tutor?

Me gusta hablar espanol, es mucho divertido pero dificil.

Good luck!
