What kind of training have you gone through? Is this dog a puppy? If it's an adult and chewing everything, it sounds like this dog is totally bored and frustrated - that's the usual reason dogs get destructive. Make sure she gets lots of exercise, do some obedience work with her to stimulate her mind, throw a ball, do whatever she likes to do. She also needs a good selection of things she can chew on.

If she chews things up when you're not home, she needs to be in a crate or exercise pen unless your there to watch her. If she starts to chew when you're there, tell her no very firmly and give her something to chew on.

The best way I found to prevent my dog from chewing on my stuff was to give her an alternative. Anytime she would try or did chew in things I did not want her to have, I would say "Morgan, NO" and then give her a rawhide bone and make her take it. Now, I do not know if Basenji dogs are allowed to have rawhide, but this type of correction should create a positive habit and it lets the dog know what is "theirs" to chew on. Also, I made a point of keeping her in the same room with me so I could inadvertently watch her and stop her right away.

i have had my daisy around 6 years (maybe she is 6.5 y.o.)... she was 3rd of 3, a coonhound and an american bulldog. The other 2 are gone over a year now and it turns out she can NOT be left alone in the house EVER... and I did not have the heart to start caging her as an adult but it became the ONLY solution... you simply cant change their minds! I closed off a hallway for when I go to work. It is like a fortress (the door) and the cat is in there with her and she was fine after a couple of weeks! 1 day i put her in withOUT the kittie and she tore the place up and somehow escaped the hall and tore up the whole house (think hannibal lechter... so I had to make the door STRONGER and always am sure to put the cat in with her.

Actually yes they make this spray that you spray on whatever you don't want your dog to chew on it's called 'Sour Apple', and what it does is when the dog gets that taste in their mouth they won't like it. Spray will not harm furnture or anything. I used it on my 2 pitbulls wonderful stuff!!!
