It is a small tube with a light, video camera and little tool to take a biopsy. They will give her something so she will sleep through out the procedure because the tube will activate the 'gag reflex' if not.
The Doctor does not want her to eat so that his view of the esophagus, valves and stomach lining is not obstructed.
I have had many of them and in fact I have one scheduled for 6:30am tomorrow.

I had an endoscopy done. Granted I'm not a baby so the experience for me was less troublesome for me. If babies are treated the same as adults, your baby will get an IV and go through general anesthesia. The doctor will then work the endoscope down the esophagus, through the upper and lower GI.
If your questioning why your baby has acid reflux, that is why the Doctor is performing the endoscopy. It could be an ulcer, bacterial infection, or any other reason.
If your questions why you can't feed your baby 9 hours before the procedure, any food that your baby has eaten must be digested and have passed; otherwise, the procedure will not be as effective.
Don't fret, I am sure your baby will have no complications from the endoscopy.

I had an endoscopy and the reason you are not to feed her is because if there's food in her stomach, the results could be inaccurate. Don't worry, she'll be fine. When I got mine done they gave me sleepy medicine which ruled. I didn't feel a thing. It might be difficult to not feed a baby, but I'm hoping her appt is early in the morning so that it doesn't really matter. Good luck! She'll be fine.

In ans endoscopy they will sedate her and put a tube with a camera on it down her throat to see what is causing the reflux. She needs to have an empty stomach for the test, so no food for 9 hrs. Give her some cold medicine and let her sleep through the fasting period.

I don't know how old your baby is, but I've had several endoscoies because I have acid reflux. I was instructed to not eat anything after midnight the night before, because they will run a tube down the esophagus into the intestines to check and see what is going on down there. It is not painful at all, as a matter of fact you won't know when it is done.
