Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retreiver! It is a more recently recognized AKC breed that has the retriever personality in a smaller size. Maybe your perfect solution? Read the profile & decide. If so, contact a member of the club. Good luck!

Australian Kelpies are loyal, friendly, intelligent, problem-solving dogs and make excellent pets. They are short haired, get along with kids and other dogs and love attention, but they are not super-hyper like retrievers. They average 30-50 pounds. You have to look for breeders, but I find the mixed breeds are best, so look up rescue sites in your area (I always do rescue pets!)

i have a huskie . if your looking for a golden retriver tempermented dog, i think huskies are perfect. they can get hyper and need alot of attention and excercise though. but they keep you warm. help to keep you fit because you walk them alot, and they can be very well trained. some are a little bigger than golden retrivers though. and they are very strong. but there amazing animals.
sorry not short haired though

Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers (or APBT counting on the place you reside, or in the event that they are registered with the AKC or UKC) are the main dependable canines I even have individually met! they are so switched directly to thoughts that they provide the impact of being to snicker and cry with you! How aggressive they are relies upon on their atmosphere, and how properly they are experienced, enjoyed and socialised as a domestic dog.

Try a Labrador retriever. Shorter coat with about the same personality and physical characteristics.

What do you mean by act? Personality? There are a ton of dog and puppies in shelter and rescues with wonderful personality. Most shelter staff will be happy to help you find a dog that meets your life style.

I am partical to Brittany's. They are medium size, and their hairs is fairly short.....they are great dogs....good family pets. They need to be kept active though....exercise and playtime are a must....especially if they are going to be house dogs...I walk mine everyday, stopping to play fetch at the park or somethign every day....she also hunts in the winter....
