I think people just started calling it that. Call it what ever you want. TIME OUT 0r going out 4 the nite . OR girls nite out boys nite out.Running a way 4 the evening. JUST you and me time. DINNER reservations. LETS go 4 a COKE. OK you and me same time same place?

Could you rephrase that? The general usage of "date" as meaning a specific time and place for one to meet another person to spend some time with is obviously derived from a calendar "date". I hate to be blunt but "duh"!
