do no longer plug your nostril and blow! in case you're congested, your eustachian tube (the tube between your nostril and ear to equalize inner and exterior rigidity) is clogged. you will no longer have the means to pop your ears, and including added rigidity will rupture your ear drum. Exruciating soreness means you have achieved it already. A ruptured ear drum will heal on that's own in a pair of week or 2, in spite of if that's a stable thought to circulate to the doctor to get an antibiotic to evade an infection to the huge open ear on a similar time as waiting for it to heal.

Try rubbing the neck muscles just below and behind your ear lobe. Yes, yawning works. Plugging your nose and blowing is the most effective, then rubbing your neck muscles in case the tubes are blocked by muscle tension.

You should never hold your nose and blow, because you can force snotty stuff up into the ear canals, where it could get infected.
Do you have swimmer's ear, or do you think you have wax buildup? Go get an over the counter ear wax removal kit from the pharmacy.
