3.0 mega pixel camera is not bad. I am using 3.0 MP from 2 years and I shot all kinds of pictures. 3.0MP camera is good for 5X7 size photos not more than that.

Go to 5.0 if you would like to enlarge the printing to more than 5X7

If you have not bought the camera yet, go for the 4 or 5 MP. Man, they must only cost abotu $20 more these days. If you are just gonna get a 3 MP no matter what, don't worry. That's all I had for about 2 years and I never wished I had more. You can't due humongous enlargements or super tight cropping, but if you take the picture pretty much as you wish for the final image, you will be quite satisfied.

Here's a for instance... This is my daughter in front of SOMEONE ELSE'S car, but it's a 3 MP file. I can't really edit the shadows off of her face due to the lack of pixels, but you can get an idea of the detail that would be possible. You would definitely be able to recognize a person in a 3 MP picture.

It depends on the size of the print. You can assume between 300 to 150 pixels per inch.

So for a 5 by 7 at 300 dpi, your picture size in pixels should be 1500 by 2100 pixels.

Even a 150 dpi print is not too bad. Make sure you set the picture quality to the highest possible and also the image size.

I have a 3 mega pixel, and it takes good shots. Wanna see a full body shot? one of me is in my blog, linked below in my sources. I think it's pretty good quality. And aren't I pretty?

also has other pictures I took with it, mostly close-ups.

King is right - with 3MP you can make 5x7 inch prints. Larger is not recommended. And that's your limitation - the print size, not how close you should zoom in to your subject.
