I cannot stand Gordon Ramsay.
This being said, Ramsay is a damn good cook, but browbeating your staff, with the addition of foul language, is not the hallmark of a good chef. A kitchen should rely upon teamwork, and, yes, there should be authority and discipline, but there is no need to be abusive.
I understand Ramsay has a Michelin Star, but this qualification relates to French 'Haute Cuisine', which is going out of fashion, not least among the French. The award is rapidly becoming an anachronism. It does not translate one into a deity.
Anthony Worral-Thompson, Brian Turner and Ainsley Harriott are the chefs to look at today. They espouse a cooking style that is fresh, original and relaxed, and is available to the domestic cook as well as those who are restaurant-employed. I've eaten at Worral-thompson's Notting Grill, an excellent restaurant, and I have also eaten at The Queens Head and Artichoke, a gastropub near Gt Portland St Tube station in London, whose chef admits to being influenced by the cooking of Harriott. The food in this pub, and , for that matter, the wine, is beyond excellence. My local Silver Service restaurant in Harwich UK boasts a chef who admits the influence of Brian Turner - once again, the food is superb.
Worral-Thompson, in particular, has attempted to fuse elements of mediterranean cooking on to the classic French cuisine, and the nouvelle cuisine as espoused by Paul Bocuse, and he has produced a refreshing cuisine that is void of pretension and bullshit. As a chef myself, I am attempting to combine the vegetarian cooking of the Punjab and Gujerat with Eastern Mediterranean cuisine, with some success. Ramsay plods along the Careme/Escoffier track and attempts to make something new in the realms of the exquisite by resorting to the vulgar.

Despite being rude and foul-mouthed, he is quite a sincere and insightful person. He knows what he's doing and is rude to the people he works with for a reason. Maybe that's why he earns your respect.

An exceptionally good question, because, after all, he is a complete knob.
Just my opinion of course, i think I am still allowed to have one.
