I'm hosting a wine night as apart of a bachelorette party weekend. Any suggestions on what wine to get that tastes good but doesn't break me?

What kind of people are you inviting? Do they know wine? Do they care about taste? Do you want red or white?

If anyone in the party knows wine at all, PLEASE steer clear of Arbor Mist, Sutter Home, White Zin (or anything pink), and cheap Cab (other than what I've listed or that you know is ok tasting).

If it's ladies who enjoy wine, but aren't conneisours, here are some great options:

Reds:
Six Prong Red
Pepe Sangiovese
Cycles Gladiator Syrah
House Red
Maryhill Reserve Sangiovese (this may be a little more than $20)
Amberhill Cabernet
Il Bastardo
Chiaramonte

Nice inexpensive whites are:

Maryhill Viognier (a little sweet)
Maryhill Muscat (A medium sweet)
Fetzer Gerwurtztraminer (a lot sweet)
Maryhill Gerwurtz (also quite sweet)
Reuscher-Haart Reisling (Sweet but with a citrus finish)
Duck Pond Pinot Gris
Maryhill Reserve Chardonnay
Moscato Allegro (very sweet)

These are all pretty much under $20 and are easily found at stores around here and at our Trader Joe's. All are very drinkable and non-offensive. Beginners and wine snobs alike will find most of these palatable.

Good luck with your party! : )

and hank - if 95% of the people on here are Americans, then the 5% who aren't should identify themselves as not being American, otherwise it's not incorrect to assume that they are. Give it up.

Depending on the tastes, ladies usually talk dry wines, but really prefer some sweetness. From dry to sweet are my suggestions.
Sutter Home is readily available and the size is the 1.5 liter bottle.
All are white. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, White Zinfandel, and Moscato being the sweetest but not cloying.

My favorite...Shiraz, it's a red wine, and it tastes great. You can get it for about $6-7 a bottle, although there are more expensive ones also. I'm from Shiraz, which is in Iran, so I gotta promote my peeps' wine! HaHa! But, it really is good..try it! Have fun at the partaaaaayy!!!

Hit the pink! - rose wines are very trendy at the moment with the best selling one in the UK being Ernest & Julio Gallo White Grenache (Around £4.49 a bottle or get a 3 litre bag-in-box for everyone for only £14.99, bargain!).

Arbor Mist (don't know if that can be really considered a wine) it's a wine product that's fruit flavored and carbonated, and tastes really good. It's also very inexpensive.

Yellow Tail makes some good wines (their merlow tasted like vinager, don't get that one!) and they are also inexpensive.

If you go to a wine shop, and not a discount store, the clerk will be able to suggest some nice and inexpensive wines.

Hope this helps!

I agree with YellowTail (get chardonnay and shiraz - some also like the merlot and riesling)

Also Bloom riesling... or I think this year they're calling it Petal...

Most women tend to like whites and white zins so get Beringer White Zinfandel... and whatever you choose, get more whites and lights than you do reds :)

If you want a good red that won't break you, try Concha Y Toro Frontera Cab/Merlot or Citra Montepulciano D'Abruzzo

go to a decent liquor store (not the grocery store or the quickie mart) and ask them. If you have a beverages and more (bev-mo) near you, they are very helpful and don't push you for the expensive stuff. But you will spend at least $10 a bottle for really good wine

My wife is very fond of Beringer White Zinfandel.

I like Yellowtail Shiraz.

Either is approx. $5 for the small bottle, and anywhere from $8 - $10 for the larger one.

Have fun!

In which country do you live? (It's amazing - look at the answers before mine - how many Americans are out here who answer arrogantly assuming the questioner is also, not understanding
that Yahoo Answers in English exists throughout all the English speaking countries that are noted at the bottom of this and other pages).
