Sounds like he may have soiled the bowls once before and like already mentioned he can still smell where he went. Forget washing them....toss 'em out and buy some new ones that way you don't have to wonder if you got all the scent off.
Labs are mouthy dogs, they like to chew. Find some toys for him to chew on, both soft ones and hard ones. Kongs are great! Stuffed plush ducks from WalMart are great, the ones that squeek.
If he is 7months old he should be house broke already. I seriously recommend NOT using house training pads and such. If you don't want a dog to learn urinate/deficate in the house then never get it started. So, ditch the pads and clean the floors up super super well. For the next week take the dog out every 30 min- 45 min. There is no reason (unless it is sick, get it checked) that it can't hold it for 45 min. at a time if it's healthy. After he eats, take him out. After he wakes up, take him out. After he plays take him out. If and when he starts running around with his nose to the ground and his tail is in a relaxed positiion and he acts like he is "concentrating" rush him out the door to his potty spot! You can also buy something called a PeePost. It has pheromones on it that attracts dogs to it (make sure it's where only he can use it or you'll have lots of company from the neighborhood ;) ). You can even give him a cue...when you take him out to potty give him a potty command like, "Hurry" or whatever. When he "hurries" tell him, "good hurry!, good boy!" and give him a food reward. You can do it, he can too! Good luck!

My friend's dog shreds her newspaper because she is really bored. You could always try exercising him more, and making sure he has bones and toys to chew on and play with. How close is the newspaper to his food and water bowls? If they are close, that might be the problem. You might try confining him to a larger area, or moving his food and water away from his toilet area.
You could look into the doggie litterbox systems. He might be less likely to mess that up, and there's nothing he can shred in it.
Why don't you look into housetraining him so he uses the bathroom outside. A 7 month old puppy should be able to hold his bladder for 6-8 hours while you are at school and work. There are lots of good books on housetraining your dog that you can check out at your local library.
Hope this helps!

Because he is still a puppy. Labs should be let outside to potty. They love to chew on stuff so newspaper training is probably not a good idea for him. When he is not eating put the bowls up and away from the area where he is supposed to go potty. You should not feed him in the same area that he goes potty. He needs to learn that where he eats is not where he potty's so just relocate the food to a different location, preferrably a different room.

Maybe he did it once accidentally...but now his scent is all over it. Dogs have a natural instinct to keep their refuse as far away from where they sleep and eat as they possibly can, but they also have an instinct to soil the same places. maybe you should consider getting him new food and water dishes, maybe a water dispenser that has a water bottle on top? and clean the area around his old dishes very carefully. You might want to start housebreaking him to go outside now, too. perhaps getting him a doggy door would help as well.

That is strange. I have known a lot of dogs in my time, but I have never heard of one using his food and water bowls as a toilet. I think you need to speak to the vet or a dog trainer about this. Of course, the simple solution, in the interim, is not to leave the bowls sitting on the floor, but to remove them between feedings.

You have to get serious about his house training. Dogs this size do better going outside for their business...Is there a reason he is trained for inside. One thing to do is buy raised bowls. This is better for medium to large dogs. If you must have him go on the paper, place it next to a door. This way if you ever want him to go outside, he'll know the direction. As for shredding up newspapers.....that goes with being a puppy. Just keep papers put up. I found that having a puppy in the house, makes me a more organized person.....I have to keep things put up...or they will get chewed on! Take care.

Poor baby has probably been kept in a small enclosure his whole life, where his bed and food dishes were in close proximity and had no place to go but by his dishes. I would just start trying to house break him all over again. hes still adjusting to his new home life and needs some guidance and training. take him out often and reward him when he goes outside...

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?wd99
Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.
What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.

He might be having some problems personally, maybe lack of attention. Because dogs that are trained wouldn't change what they have been trained unless they have a personal problem.

Never heard of that one! Maybe try putting a litter box nearby....sounds like he doesn't think that newspaper is a good place.
Why can't he go outside?? Just curious.
