The bible is outdated. For me this is a prime reason to question the existance of god, more specifically the credibility of the bible. If god loves everyone and promotes love and good will, why would he create people inferior to other people. The same applies as to why the bible is sexist against women.

If you were literate and had read the bible you would know the rest of the answer. The bible doesn't condone slavery. Read it some time. especially the New Testament.

im not a literate follower but its my understanding that the law of land is followed before law of god, and last time i checked slavery was illegal.

as for why, thats how it was back then. there were no machines, so slaves did the work. i havent read the rules part recently, but i think it says to treat them humanely. and free them when their debt is paid.

That was the culture of that time. But I do find it odd that Christians say slavery is bad, yet even Jesus tells slaves to be content with their life and to obey their masters. So, I'm not sure how they suddenly became more "moral" than Jesus.

Who do you think sponsored the Bible?

Why would wealthy slave owners finance anyone who promoted the idea they should give up their property or positions of influence?

The Bible was written by and for the elite class to be used to justify keeping the lower classes in their places. The primary message of the New Testament is for peasants to submit to their masters.

Biggest con of all time and the stupid peasants fell for it and are falling for it to this day. Peasant in this life and king in next. Except there is no next.

The Israelites wanted a servant underclass. They knew about that from the Egyptians (where the Israelites WERE the servant underclass). So Moses said it was okay, and set out terms for keeping them. If he hadn't, then the Israelites would have revolted against him.
