Who has had a relationship with a cousin, or a distant cousin, and so on?
Who knows somebody who has had such an affair?
Would your family and friends accept something like that?

No, I haven't, but a friend of mine is married with her cousin on the catholical church.
They have a lovely, cute and healthy son.
Before reading these answers, I didn't realize it was a problem!
And I'm still thinking it is not. Maybe it is a prejudice for some people, due to cultural aspects, mainly for american people, which are so small-minded!
Neither the church has any doubt considering this situation.

I feel like people misundertood the question. Or they're everything but well-informed. Relationship between cousin is not incest at all. If it were between parents and children, or brothers and sisters it would be for sure, but between cousins, no !
I've never had a affair like that, but if I have it wouldn't be such a big deal. Indeed I know some cousin (1st cousins) that got married and have healthy children. And they go to the church every Sunday.

No. I can't even stand family reunions at the civic center. I do know first cousins who did have an affair but were outcast by their family when it became public. That was about 15 years ago and the family is still in turmoil.

The answer is no. In some states, having a love affair with a relative or kin is called "Incest", and it is a violation of law which you can be prosecuted for. Of all the singles out there, find a non-relative to date, if you have any respect for your family, as well as yourself. Even if "Incest" was not a violation of law, it should be a violation of your morals. Come on, you're a bigger person than that. Don't screw up your and your relative's life!

Every relationship I have encountered with that connection has turned bad eventually....apparently that situation has no staying power

I have never done this. All my cousins are girls anyway and my brother is not my type. I would not do this anyway.
My family would not condone this action if I chose to do it.

Erm... isn't that called incest? I think it's illegal to be with your 2nd cousin or closer (Ist cousin, brother, etc) but still.... it's kind of nasty
