Periodically, someone (myself included) will ask if you would renounce your religion to save your child from execution. The answers are usually split about 50/50, with some people answering that they would let their child die in the name of the lord.
CPT just posted an excellent, similar question. I was stunned by the answers. See for yourself.

My question is this: To those of you who said they would rather accept Jesus into their hearts and save their own skin, rather than save the 12 babies....Did it ever occur to you that maybe YOU had been sent to save these babies, and this was a morality test on Jesus' part??
HOW do you people sleep at night?

oaluvslif....you didn't answer the question. I'm not concerned about what happens to me when I die. My concern lies with how you people could let the babies die.

Spookshow....It never ceases to amaze me. I'd do anything to save my kids. Even burn in hell for eternity, if it in fact would exist.

Opinionat....NEVER?! What about the Christians who hid the Jews during the Holocaust, at a real danger to their own lives? They were asked to make a choice. I'm betting they would have saved the babies, too.

Nikki.....I'm pro choice. I would never have an abortion, but I respect the right of a woman to do as she feels she must.

Many of the answers to that question stating that they would let the babies die makes me see that many Christians see this life as a fairly useless waiting line for getting into heaven. They seem to discount any worth living this life may have. Is it really all about heaven? Is there nothing to what we do here, except you better be good or you'll burn?
Wow. Sometimes I still have those moments that strike me and make me see that, for me at least, Christianity is NOT the way.
Let the babies die?... I mean, wow. And they say atheists are immoral.

Being a mother whose own son sleeps with the angels that is a hard question.
Much of my answer would depend on the environment I am in.
If I would be left alone and able to continue to raise my child I may publically renounce my religion and quietly bring my child up right in the ways of the Lord.
If I knew I was going to die as well regardless of what I say I may well decide to take the hit on my soul and allow us both to die; particularly if I had reason to believe that my child would be made to suffer a life of abuse or tortue or would be raised and trained to become a monster.
It all depends.
I would seriously have to question if I really wanted a child of mine to live in a world where someone like Hitler ruled with all of those atrocities people were made to endure.
While we may all want our children to live, we must also make sure that our own desires aren't selfish if it would be better to let them die so as to not cause them more pain.....cancer, AIDS, etc.
Thank you, Spooky, unfortunately I am divorced since before I enlisted and I am alone now.
Hugs

A better question than how do we sleep at night might be why doesn't the CPT get some sleep or do something constructive rather than come up with stupid questions like this. I don't think any of us really knows what we would do in a situation like this, unless we were actually thrust into a situation like this. As a Christian, my faith is very important to me, however, so is human life, so to ask any believer to choose between their love of God and love of innocent babies is a catch 22, a trick question, and you know that. So how dare you judge when you probably couldn't answer the question yourself. But I will not condemn you like you seem to like to do to Christians. I only hope that God will bless you with wisdom and understanding to accept the things (and people) you cannot change, change the ones you can and leave everybody else alone. God bless you.

Mr. Duchovny,
I believe that the babies were covered, having no concept of evil, and would gather in heaven the same as I would. And yet, abortion remains legal, and not beneficial to anyone, really. How does the mother sleep at night?
I would rather die, than to allow the devil to win any souls; we are Christians, and believe in all of that.
To top that off, why is the evil of an executioner not mentioned? Will the CPT be carrying out the dubious plot? hmmm?
So the CPT can wonder of our devotion to God, while if the same scenario were to be with them on the chopping block, would they care to have their mothers executed, or them?
I guess that it's "Goodbye, mother. See you when I get there?" lol

In order to save their own skin they posit that babies are sinless and would automatically go to heaven. I'll bet you in another context these same hypocrites have said that we were all sinless before the Fall but since then we are born in sin - so once you're born, you're damned to hell. The selfish Christians who chose their own skin over 12 babies neither know their scripture (for they send 12 babies to Hell) nor demonstrate the slightest moral scruple about allowing twelve innocent beings to die so that they can spend some quality time with their imagined version of a dead Jewish revolutionary. Praise be.
If I was faced with the choice, I think my last thought before oblivion would be, "Thank heavens someone was able to save these children, and I'm not sorry it was me". Easy peasy.

As a single women I would not renounce my religious beliefs and save my skin. But if I was a mother I believe that I would react to that siduation differently. I probably would sacrifice my own life in order to save my child's because I couldn't live with myself.

i do not believe in all that crap(religion), but your question in my opinion is extremely intelligent, put these people in a situation were they actually have to use their OWN mind, no god to help you!they are disgraceful really, sacrificing their own baby for a **** that does not exist! and even if he did exist, i would make sure they all go to their immaginary hell, and stay there. be careful, these ppl could be your neighbours!!! keep up with the intelligent questions! xxx

What if it was baby Jesus on his return visit? Christians don't think this hard. (not that I am saying anyone can come back from the dead, or that Jesus was god, etc.) Point is, if Christians believe what they say, they may have just let their savior die.

The thing is i don;t think Jesus would test us in this way. He wants us to accept him of our own free will not make us choose between him and 12 innocent little babies so actually i think the point is moot.

Since all of this is a scenario, it's easy for people to say anything. God would never present it anyway since salvation is the point of having a relationship with God.
