If you all are so good, and believe in helping others so much then why do we have so many people homeless and hungry? Why don't each one of you take home a homeless person today and let them shower in your house, clean their clothes and eat something? Doesn't require any money and you would be helping your fellow man. You would be doing a very Christian thing. So why don't you? If you want to volunteer, let me know, I saw a bunch of crack heads under a bridge that looked like they could use a good home for a little while.

I am not decent and I am not kind. If I pull up to them and they ask for money, I tell them sorry, all I have is hundreds. F them, they can get a job. I just want to show how all these Christians out there scream about how good they are and they don't bother to help them. As for me, I am evil - so I say scr%w em!

I wasn't talking about your Church. I was talking about YOU personally? So you rely on your church to do your good deeds?

I think this is a rather unfair blanket accusation, particularly for those of us who have worked with the homeless and fed the hungry. Who runs this area's only homeless shelter? Um, that would be a local church. And when the Hurricane Katrina evacuees landed here, guess who took those people into their homes and donated massive amounts of money and time toward helping them? That's right, it was the local churches. As for the poor people who are still out there, you're quite right. Their numbers are staggering, and there are only so many who can be helped at one time. But the churches are still doing charity drives (in fact, we just finished one), and people are still being aided every day. To suggest that poverty exists simply due to the lax efforts of Christians is logically absurd, since poverty often exists due to unfair socio-political factors rather than due to your local corner church refusing to help the entirety of the world's population.

As for your accusation regarding reliance upon the church for good deeds, it's a simple matter of economics and common sense. A group can distribute more charity than a single person. By uniting, far more work can get done.

Once again, someone trying to start something...

In my life, my husband and I have taken in two mothers with their babies. They were homeless... we gave them shelter and food and showers and anything else that they needed. So stop being stereotypical.

Do you want to know the reason why I do not bring home many homeless people? It is because I have a family to protect. I am a young mother of two, and my husband is out of town a lot. If I were to seriously invite some homeless people that I do not know anything about into my house, do you think that that would be very responsible of me? The last homeless person that I brought into my house, brought drugs with them. They were gone shortly thereafter...

The other day, my husband gave money to a homeless man because he said that he was hungry. The man then crossed the street and bought liqueur with the money. My husband will probably never do that again.

I have no issues at all with helping homeless people... I do what I can... but what I do have a problem with is people like you taking any information that they can find and trying to make it look like Christians are the bad ones because of it. We are not the reason why some people are homeless or hungry, and many of us do try to help... keep that in mind next time you go accusing entire groups of people of things that you obviously have no understanding about.

Your question is very demanding. Yes christians are asked to be good neighbors, and open the door to whoever knocks, but serious issues need to be prayed over, and I know christians that do take in homeless people. There's also christian organizations that christians organize and volunteer at in tons of churches around the globe that support homeless families over the night with food and hospitality.

I don't know, but it sounds to me like you're a little desperate to make christians look bad. Chill out if that's the case.

This is not a question. You are clearly 1. an idiot, 2. an antagonist. Moreover, there are countless Christians, Christian Churches, and Christian Organizations that have homeless, drug, family and other ministries where many people volunteer at, giving their time, finances, job training, housing, child care, free medical and more services. You should shut your stupid trap because you don't know what you are talking about. You are an total idiot and have your head in yourass. You are a moron.

I do volunteer to help people, including the homeless. Sorry that I didn't tell you about it. You are probably correct in asserting that we could be doing more than what we do, however.

You can set the example for us and invite all of the crack-heads that you know over to your house for a shower. Then you will have room to talk.

Would that be helping them or enabling them to escape the consequences of their destructive behavior?

I think we need to look carefully that what we do actually helps those in need.

Our church offers a winter shelter and meals for the homeless. This is something that we volunteer for. They have people available to help assist the homeless in getting clothing needed for job interviews, receive health care, etc. In other words they are taking care of their immediate needs as well as helping them plan for their future needs. Just randomly picking up drug addicts off the street and bringing them into your home doesn't really accomplish this goal.

Plus that we do have an obligation to protect our own families. People who use illegal drugs are criminals with impaired thinking skills, it would not be wise to bring them into our homes.

Did you take any home and feed them?

Being descent and kind to a fellow human being isn't strictly limited to Christians - it should be the concern of all of mankind.

Some people do do that, (hats off to them) but i think a lot of so called christians are only half christian. That is, they take the part of their faith they want and ignore the rest because it isn't convenient. I think this behaviour is unavoidable for most, especially living in a capitalist country.
