Am I at risk for amphetamine-induced psychosis?

I'm 18 and have been diagnosed with ADD. I've been on and off 30 mg of adderall for about 6 or 7 years (I would stop taking it after a while because I stopped feeling its effects.) I've always noticed it to have a speed-like quality. Are those who have ADD not supposed to feel this? Could this really put me at risk for amphetamine-induced psychosis?

Are you sure you are ADD? You said you haved noticed it has a speed like quality. Usually with ADD sufferers it has the opposite effect....It is supposed to calm you. While the amphetimine people take for ADD, is in effect speed, and would have a speed up affect with a non ADD sufferer, it should not have that effect with an ADD sufferer....that is why I have asked are you sure you are really ADD.

You really need to go see your doctor again because you have probably been wrongly diagnosed. Any drug that does not have the desired effect obviously is not doing anything for you so taking it is a waste of time.

Please go see your doctor...he will refer you to a specialist where you will be correctly diagnosed and given medication (if needed) that will help you. Maybe you dont have a mental illness at all. You are 18 now, some ADD sufferers grow out of it.

If you were diagnosed as ADD when you were 11 years old, it was pretty young to make a correct diagnosis....Kids suffer all kinds of problems and some of them have nothing to do with a mental illness. Sometimes doctors diagnose because they think it could be ADD, but if the drugs you have been prescribed are not working, then my best guess is that you dont have ADD.

Dont take mine or anyone elses word for it....go see a professional...they are the only ones who can give you the correct information.
