The patch contains the same amount of estrogen as the pill, but the medicine is absorbed differently, so with the patch you are absorbing a lot more estrogen than you are with the pill. This does create a higher risk for blood clot and stroke. I got off the patch abut 3 months ago.

Here is the deal, any woman over thirty and smokes is at increased risk for blood clots and women with certain types of cancers increase their risk of reoccurence or worsening of their cancer. The reason is the progesterone that is in ALL birthcontrol, so what i am trying to say is that the patch is no more risky than the ring or the pill. email me if you have more questions.

I was on it myself when it first came out and it did not harm me at all. To me it was just like the pill only I had to stick it on my body and not ingest it. I stop using it as it said on the package that it was only affective in woman up to 175 pounds and I was more then that. Talk to your doctor about any concerns you have.
