Language arts is a general term for reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, poetry, comprehension, and anything else that goes with becoming educated in your own language. I have heard it used only in English, especially in the U.S.

Well, at my school it's basically a program that people too stupid to learn foreign language take. I think it's basically English and reading type stuff.
