For her own health, she should lose weight. Exercise pumps up all the right hormones, and what not, that bring on happiness. Ultimately, there is nothing you can do but be a good friend. You could suggest working out together, but she may take that as an unwelcome push to make her lose weight. You could suggest window shopping at the mall. The walking would do her good. Or start finding tasty foods to share with her, passion fruit, pineapple, or whatever. You might get her hooked. If she has mentioned a desire to lose weight, you can directly intervene by helping her plan healthy meals, snacks and basic eating habits. Things like, smaller portions, more often, help. Overall you are eating the same, but it gives your body more time to metabolize it, which in return, keeps your metabolism higher, and helps you lose weight. Then she can start substituting healthier foods, and less of it. As far as other people making fun of her, she needs to learn to not worry about it. she shouldn't let it get to her. It only causes her to be tense, and stress doesn't help when it comes to weight. Ultimately, it doesn't matter, as long as shes happy, that's the whole point of life. And if shes not happy, she needs to take the steps to make herself that way. Perhaps the weight is not why she is unhappy, perhaps she is unhappy for other reasons and that is why she weighs so much.
