Would you ask for the ring back?
What would you do with it?

the rules of etiquette are this... if the man breaks the engagement, the woman is entitled to keeo the ring as a "settlement" for breach of contract ... if she breaks the engagement, she is required to return it to the spurned suitor.

If I were a guy and engaged and then split up,I couldn`t ask for the ring back...

Be serious, then I as a girl,i should ask all the gifts I gave him...
let`s see,I bought my fiance 2 bmw`s,an appartment, and almoast everything what he has got...I couldn`t do something like that, not even if he really hurt me,if he did whatever,he can keep anything, but he won`t keep me so he will be the one that lost...
in your case aswell, let her have the ring, don`t be a jerk...

The ring should always be given back! It is a token of promise and that promise has been broken. Sell the ring for its appraised value or take the stone out and have it remade into another ring for someone later on down the road. But you should get the ring back.

I wouldn't act like a kid to get it back,if I could afford to buy a great ring in the first place, then I wouldn't care to have it back if I was financially set.

I would probably ask for the ring back and I'd pawn it, but listen to the opinions of others and make your descision.
What you should do will be partly based on how abused you were in the relationship/breakup, in my opinion.

Well, you gave it to her, so it's hers. If she gives it back, you might as well sell it. No woman's gonna want a second--hand engagement ring.

Damn right I'd want it back. I gave the ring with the intension to marry... we don't marry, you don't need the ring. After getting it back, I'd try to sell it and get some if not all of my money back. If you took it with the intension of getting married, and you don't why would you want to keep it?

If you bought the ring yes, you are entitled to claim it back. She knows the rule so be decent enough to return it without argument.

If she broke it off, then I'd ask for it back. I'd keep the stone and have another ring made.
If you broke it off then just think of it as an expensive lesson and be happy your out.

The ring was given as a gift....if she breaks up with you...then yes she is suppose to give you the ring back....if you break up with her, then no she has every right to keep it to do as she pleases. what would you do with it? whatever you want i guess...pawn it...ebay...save it and put it towards another one when you meet somone else.
