I am making French Onion Soup and I need to broil it....I only have glass bowls. The Bowls are thick, but I don't remember if the package said that they were able to go in the oven. I know they can go in the microwave...help.

Have you checked the bottom of the bowl? I just looked at a couple pieces of glass cookware and they both had the manufacturer and "oven" or "ovenware" on them. If it only has the manufacturer's name, maybe you can look them up online and call their 800 number to find out. It's probably oven safe if it's glass and microwave safe, but if it isn't, you'll have a big mess to clean up.

Some glass bowls are oven safe while most aren't. If yours is not stamped oven safe on the bottom or with a brand name like Pyrex or Anchor Hocking that make oven safe glassware, I wouldn't risk it. Not only would the glass bowl break, you could end up with shards of glass in the cheesecake. Do you have a broiler pan that's large enough for the springform pan? That's what I use even though it doesn't hold as much water as preferred. Otherwise, just put a large pan of water on the lower rack and the cheesecake in the middle of the oven.

It depends on the glass. Make sure you read everything thatcomes with the glass bowl first to make sure that you can put it in the oven. I put a glass bowl in the oven once not paying attention to see if I can use it in the oven and it shattered!

You can check the bottom of the bowl. It should tell you if it's oven ware. If not, I would not take the chance of putting it in the oven without knowing for sure.

No, not unless you have a salamandre (item used for browning top of food only, in the oven)in the oven and it's left in very briefly only for purposes of browning, not cooking.
