Those who are viewed as insane are generally those who are showing an abnormal level of emphatic interest as compared to others. Since these people have such an emphatic interest, they are more likely to respond to various posts and to have higher levels of interaction. This equates directly to more points, and to higher levels.

Because no one normal would devote that much time to this site. Higher levels indicate that you've truly wasted a larger portion of your life than others. The sane ones are outside enjoying actual relationships not proselytizing their views on-line.

Some of us are very smart, and we feel sorry for some people who are so close to a problem they can't see the obvious answer.
Consider- the people who can't see the forrest because the tree's are in the way.
