That is not an accurate statement. I am a secular homeschooler and know many homeschoolers who also have no religion in their homeschooling and/or are not christian. It comes down to this, if the public school system is not working for your child and you care about the child, you pull them and have them taught in a way that works for them, be that private school or home school. In some areas the schools are little more than day care centers. The parents that want their children to learn teach them themselves. Also, for those of you who think that homeschool children are not socialized as well as public school children should look for the study published earlier this year that studied both groups of children and found that homeschool children are far better able to deal socially with all age groups.

It's not mostly Christians who do it. Lots of non-religious people home school their kids because public schools are so horrible. The Christians who do home school (myself included) do it for a lot of reasons:

1) I want to be my kids' role model--not some stranger that I meet with 4 times a year for conferences, and DEFINITELY not a bunch of other kids!

2) My kids can work and learn at their own pace, advanced or delayed, and learn more extensively about the subjects that interest them.

3) I taught my kids to walk and talk, now I'm teaching them to read.

4) The world is their classroom, instead of just having...a classroom.

Most Americans, for some reason, are unaware that public school goes against the 10th amendment. The concept of a public school system comes from the Communist Manifesto. That's probably why it doesn't work very well.

My friend is a Christian woman and home schools her children because she feels that they do not have to be exposed to alot of outside influence. ( Such as darwinism in the schools. ) The other issue she discussed with me is the removal of the word God from the school systems. Thirdly she feels that there are many children and adults who live life without believing and therefore act without a christian attitude. I personally have my daughter in the school system and have no problem with it. Although she is only 4 I know what we believe (I am a christian too) and when she has questions we will discuss them. I believe that she will be exposed to all of these things and one point and time in her life. So we may as well just raise her to go to church, teach her Christ's teachings, to have morals and ethics and go from there.

Most christians don't home school their children. I'm assuming you are in an area where it's the norm rather then the exception.

Religion has always been about controlling people and keeping them ignorant is a good way to do that.

By controlling every facet of a child's life they are easier to indoctrinate into whatever religion you want them to follow.

Logic has never been a friend to religion and keeping children from learning to think logically is the only way to chain them into whatever cult their parents follow.

Also one of the primary tools of any cult is isolating individuals from opposing viewpoints and surrounding them with people who will reinforce what they want them to believe.

Christian families home school their children because they feel that their christian values are not being served in the public school systems in their area. I really think this is teaching their children to be kind of bigoted and hypocrites toward people that are very different from them. But, I was not home schooled, I was brought up in the public school special education system and then in a regular Roman Catholic All Girls High School, myself.

As a public school employee, I can state that home schooling succeeds where public education fails. Teachers here have political agendas, are disrespectful, and would prefer to show a video in class instead of teach. (Some, not all.) There is overcrowding and not much one-on-one time with an educational professional.

Schools are biased. You can teach the theory of evolution but not the theory of intelligent design. Is that fair? There are drugs, gangs, violence, vandalism and racial tension here in public education.

Christians are mostly conservative. Public school teachers are overwhelmingly far left liberals.

They don't trust the content or the quality of the teaching.

As a side note, home schooled kids usually excel way above the grade level for public schooled kids in their age group. Unfortunately they don't gain the social skills that the public school students get.

A lot of the reason is the Fairy tale taught as proven fact without a common recognition of reference such as evolution. What people fail to realize is that it is not only the "origin" that is taught, it turns out to be the lack of righteousness that is taught. Christianity is not perfect we all sin everyday in fact but the call of Christ is striving to be Christ-like... you must take that in the entire meaning of the Bible not the few little quirks that people on here want to judge and then use to ignore sin in their own life... If something inhibits ones relationship with God then we distance our selves from it... Fortunately the school where my kids go is mainly Christian so I am not forced to home-school yet...

I am a Christian and in a California homeschool charter in the Bay Area. At least here, it is not "mostly" Christians who homeschool. There are many other people including atheists and same-sex couples who homeschool as well. There are many Christian homeschool groups around here, but many other kinds of groups as well. People here homeschool because the schools aren't very good and there is quite a bit of violence in many of them. Homeschooling allows you to have a lot more influence on your kids, to educate them in more subjects, to spend a lot of time with them, and to expose them to the arts and sciences in active and interesting ways.
