I don't have much sympathy, they weren't drafted, they chose to be in the military, that means they should be ready to go where, and when the USA needs them. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate them...but I don't like anyone who is getting paid and complains about it...get a new job...should have thought about that one before enlisting

You find it unusual that someone wouldn't want to go back to Iraq? These men and women have been away from their families for God knows how long. Rather it's a war, or a sailor's six month deployment, they would much rather be home with their families. Do you think that just because they're Military they don't have the right to want to miss their loved ones? See, being away from home and their families is just one of the many sacrifices our Military makes. They would rather be with those they love, but they made a commitment to serve their Country, and they'll honor that commitment
Who cares if you don't feel sorry for these mean and women. They have more courage, honor and loyalty in their little finger then you have in your whole body. You are so hateful and mean. I wish you would get help for yourself.

Well, after being to Iraq for the third time you wouldn't want to be going back there. I'm one of those "gung ho troops" that everyday serves her country and puts her life at risk for selfish, inconsiderate, ungrateful f*ckheads like you.
Being in Iraq is hell, I've been on two tours with the Australian army. Everyday is sh!tfire. You never know whether you'll be coming back that night, you never know whether the guy beside you will be coming back or if he'll be somewhere in a pile of dead bodies you'll have to go through to find him.
You spend 18 months in a strange place which is governed by so many different cultural changes, you don't get to see the ones you love, you don't get to have the same priveledges as you would, all you get is to see is the destruction and the constant thoughts in your mind of whether you're going to be the next one dead. I spent everyday for 18 months at a makeshift hospital, seeing firsthand the destruction going on there, and trust me it's nothing like the nansy pansy stuff they potray on CNN.
And yeah, if I was told I was going to be subjected to that again I probably would have something to say about it. You have no idea how hard it is, mentally, physically and emotionally to be in a place like Iraq. Being in the military isn't easy and for you to judge is beyond belief. You obviously have no idea what it is like to be in the military and you obviously have no one that you love in the military or you'd at least have a f**kin understanding of it.
Next time you've put up with that sort of sh!t for the third or fourth time let me know if you'd cry about going back into the sh!thole. Until then I'd suggest not posting sh!t like this and growing up a little.

Yes I do... These men and women are on the other side of the wrold away from their familys for at least a year at a time... if that doesn't make it hard... I would like to see you shipped off over there to help out! Actually no I don't want someone of your likes behind my husbands back... Just because you spent 6 years in the military doesn't mean you know everything!

erudite has not served, and he has an incredible propensity for making up BS stories that have little connection to reality. His drivel is dismissable as such. In answer to some of the stupidity that has been responded i have only this to say:
it's not fear of dying, it's not fear of being injured, it's not that iraq is truly that hellish, it's not laziness, it's definately not cowardice, and it's not some paradox that we signed up just to get a paycheck without doing the job.
It's going years without seeing your family, missing the birth of a daughter, missing your son's first steps. Not holding your wife on your aniversary. It's not being there for a parent who has to go to the hospital. It's only having one person at parent teacher conferences. It's "daddy can't make it to you choir recital." It's a version of christmas with your family only over email. It's not going to the bar with your friends. It's falling behind on the neighborhood gossip. It's paying a kid down the street to mow the lawn because you can't be there to take care of your own household. But most of all it's tucking a letter from home under your pillow at night simply because it's the only way to be close to home.
It's all those things, and then doing your job anyway. If you haven't been there... stuff it. You don't have any conception of the life style you belittle.
So erudite et al, post your crap, but know that even the lizard droppings on the bottom of the worst american soldier's DCU boots is tougher, more honorable, and has more character than you.

Most Americans hate their jobs. They come home after sitting in their cube for 8 hours and complain for the rest of the day. Being in the military is not a normal job. When you deploy you stand a very good chance of not coming back, of leaving your kids without a mother or father. If you are lucky enough to make it home, it's a relief that you actually get the privilege to see your family again. Military life is hard and I cant believe we are over there fighting for a bunch of ungrateful Americans. It is truly disgusting.

Never seen a day of military life except in the movies huh?
It is wise not to take on a subject that becomes painfully obvious you know nothing about or have never even experienced. Of course an individual such as yourself wouldn't survive in any type of military setting, whether it be peacetime or combat. Don't say "I'd never join". There may come a time (again) where you may not have the option.
Of course...you strike me as a cadet for ROTC (Run Off To Canada)

in case you have been enjoying...I propose paying interest at school, there are 50,000 NONCOMBAT troops being left at the back of, some to proceed education military or police recruits, and a few for intelligence purposes. that's extremely not a hidden fact, yet has been suggested a minimum of 7 situations interior the final 3 days with the aid of a variety of human beings, consisting of President Obama.

I have both children and grandchildren in the us military,,,,,, so yes,,,, I feel more need to join the service and give some of these guys some time at home. At least in Nam we only spent one year and then someone else got a turn.

Is anyone else tired of Erudite's comments about our men and women serving in the armed forces?
If you never served in the Armed Forces you have not earned the right to criticize their opinions or their actions. I am personally tired of all of the "Arm Chair Quarterbacks" that most likely could not fight in a street fight let alone a combat situation. Erudite has done nothing but complain and talk down our brave young men and women. I would be interested in knowing his military background, sure he got an honorable discharge, but what did he do while in there.
I know this is supposed to be questions and answers, but i get tired of seeing the same person posting the same types of questions.
Had the UN let us finish the job after Desert Storm we would not be doing this today. They are the ones that said no, and that our mission was just to liberate Kuwait. That is why we went this time without UN approval, so we can do what needs to be done. I saw in person the suffering that the Iraqi civilians were put through then. I would myself go back now if they would let me.
Again, if you have not served, you have not earned the right to criticize. However, be thankful that you are in a country that you can however voice your opinion just like I voiced mine. Those men and women you are criticizing gave their blood for you to be able to do that.

I doubt "all the troops" are crying like you say. I know your kind. You are one of those people who is currently enrolled at a liberal college or went to a liberal college and all you did all day was sit around bad mouthing our country, our President and our troops. You don't have the balls to be in the U.S. military, so you sit over here in the safety of your own home. (Probably live in your mother's basement and look at porn) While real men are out fighting for your freedom to talk **** about them. Get a life loser!
