how can i prevent this from happening?

Well, that theme used the classic task bar, not the XP task bar. You should have seen that from the pictures of the theme before you downloaded it. You did see what it looked like before you installed it right?!?!?

You could always modify the theme yourself by switching to the normal Windows layout, and manually assign all the sounds and icons, and wallpaper that are in the theme folder.

However, since you were too farkin' lazy to look at the theme in the first place and realize that the task bar would change, then I imagine you are way to lazy to manually set everything up.

Ok first of all let make this clear..
windows XP version dont allow u to put non windows given themes...u can only use those windows themes...the classic..silver..blue...green..to apply non windows themes you need to patch the UXTHEME.DLL....automatic patchers are availble for this....after patching the file u can apply any theme u want...

There are only 3 Windows XP themes. (green, blue, silver) If you chose anything other than those than its a windows classic theme and will use windows classic taskbars and windows.

if you havewindows XP go to proporties and then click on the tab that says apperance then you will see the firs box on the top and click on the arrow and select the windows XP style.
