I have read about the good effects of natural potassium, like the ones present in fruits, prunes, vegetables etc. However, I am getting contradictory answers here.

Actually, natural potassium, such as is found in food, is a natural diuretic, and in adequate amounts will work to lower blood pressure. Potassium is a positively charged salt, sodium is negatively charged salt, so Potassium will drag sodium out of the system which in turn pulls water out of the system, this lowers your total volume which in turn lowers your blood pressure. Synthetic potassium supplements do not work the way natural potassium works and can easily cause too high a potassium level in the blood which can be dangerous.
