My daughter is 4 years old. She wears a pull up at night and wakes up with it wet almost every morning. Should I wait until her pull up is dry most mornings to take her out of them or should I take her out of them to train her? What age did your child train at night?

My four year old (almost 5 really) is also still in pullups. The experts say not to worry about it till they are at least 6. It takes some kids longer to develop the "wake up" signal than others. This sure is true, since her 2 1/2 year old sister who we just potty trained in July is already going all night with no pull-up, and comes and gets me in the night when she needs to go. But not the almost-five-year-old. She's just different. It's ok for now.

Well, I waited until my son was dry overnight. But I got lucky with him because he just did it on his own. He was 3 when he was completely potty trained. We never had any accidents, whatsoever. But I wouldn't worry about your daughter. Some kids take a little longer to stay dry overnight. Partly because their bladders have to grow a little more to hold that much for that long, and partly because they sleep so soundly at that age, that it's hard for them to wake up enough to get up and go.

What you can do though, is keep liquids to a minimum at night time. Perhaps refraining from giving her a drink an hour before bedtime.

You could also wake her before you go to bed and have her try to go...or even set your alarm for say 2 or 3am to get her up and go.

I obviously haven't tried those things myself, but I've heard from others that it works!

I would definitely keep the pull up on overnight until she's mastered the art of the "middle of the night pee". That way there, her confidence isn't brought down by those accidents...not to mention the hassle you would have to go through in the middle of the night (or morning) cleaning up the sheets!!

Good Luck!!

I trained my daughter at 18 months. One thing I found out with Pull-Ups, other than they are too expensive, is that they give the child a false sense of security. What everyone with daughters told me to do was to just put my daughter on a pair of underwear and she will pee on herself once or twice and that will be it. That girls just dont like the feel of wetness between their legs. So I did just that, and she was potty trained in 2 days!!!!! She peed on herself ONE time and that was it!!! She has never peed on herself again and she will be 4 next month.

I hope this suggestion works for you!!!

Limit intake of liquids two hours before bedtime. And stop using the pull-ups. Put her in regular underwear.

My daughter only peed the bed once or twice, till she realized she could actually get up and use the toilet at night just as easily as during the day. She hasn't wet the bed in two years.

My son was trained at night at 2 yrs old. I never put a pull up on him becasue its the same as a diaper. Slowly I cut back back time in his diaper and then cut him off completely. Yes he had a few accidents, but thats when he learned to stay dry.
But just in case he had an accident at night, I put layers of sheets with plastic bags in his bed. If he wet it, just take off the soiled sheet, remove the plastic and you have yourself a clean , dry sheet underneath . I cut back a lot of stress of changing sheets in the middle of the night.

i trained both of my kids at the age of 2, what i did was make sure they went to the bathroom before bed time and i woke up in the middle of the night to take them again, this can be very tiresome but i found it to be the only way they can stay dry though out the night and slowly wing yourself from this process and it should work good luck

I've been waking my son at night so that he can pee.
He's got excellent bladder control but he sleeps so deeply that he doesn't feel the sensation to pee. He refuses to wear pull ups, hasn't since the second week of potty training.

some children have immature nervous systems that dont wake them when theyre sleeping. just dont punish-cut off drinks 2 hours b4 bed time and in that time make them go to the bathroom at least 3 times thats what we still have to do with our 8 year old son
