Hi I have a 12 year old Newfie, we have moved about 3 months ago, and during the move he has had an upset belly, now just recently he has had really bad diarrhrea, can't even hold it for when we get home. We stopped feeding him in the morning, his dog food hasn't changed nor has his eating habbits! Would there be internal things that could be going wrong like for instance I was thinking Thyroid or Anal Gland? If you happen to have any information PLEASE Help! Thanks Sarah

Considering your dog's age and the fact that the bowel problems started when you moved, it may be possible that there is something in your new environment (the water source especially) that might be affecting him.

To start with, don't feed him for a whole day to give his insides a chance to calm down. Then start him on a bland diet of boiled hamburger and rice. This will fill him up without upsetting his bowels. If his bowels calm down and his stools start looking more normal, slowly start adding his normal dog food to the rice mixture until he's back on his normal diet.

In the meanwhile, take a sample of his stool (in a Ziploc bag) to your vet and have him run a "fecal float test". Ask him to check for worms, coccidia and giardia. The last two are intestinal parasites that live in water. If your dog has these, your water source is contaminated and you'll need to get it checked out ASAP. (Giardia can affect you, too.)

Absolutely, but you should take him to a vet. This can easily end in dehydration and death. If the eating habits havent changed then a vet visit is in order.

I would search the new home for anything that could be causing the problem. Is there new grass that he is eating of a different sort? Anything outside that the old owners may have left behind? Did he get into the trash and eat the pizza you had for the moving crew?

first take your dog to the vet, 2ND feed him/her this, Hamburger, cook it like you are making hamburger helper. but with out the other stuff. after the meat is cooked wash off all the oil. Make rice without butter and sait, mix the rice and hamburger together,# cups rice 3cups hamburger every 2 to 3 hours. once you see your dog go to the restroom normal. then stop feeding the hamburger and rice

It could be the water...when you moved is the water different? If so give him bottled water, we always take water with us when we travel for ourselves and for our pets. Also make sure you are feeding good dog food cheap dog food give dogs loose stools.

could be hook worms. My dog recently has the same and it was disgusting. Turns out she had hooks warms. It is likely due from heat and bacteria. Think about all the things dogs sniff! Gross
