Same reason you have poor people who are not content/happy. They are people first, then rich.
I am happier and more contented now, that when I had a big house, and 4 cars, and my kids going to band camp. We were all miserable because I was married to an abusive person, and was one myself. We fought all the time, and it took me YEARS to dare to leave him.
He has since remarried and is happy, I think. I am in love and happy.
Happiness is the residue that is left after living a life of service, unselfishness, and kindness. It is not easily sought, but rather discovered. You get it from other people, and doing for other people. You don't get real happiness from stuff. Temporary buzz, at best, from stuff.
Good health, and being engaged in life- there is the road. You can't sleep-walk and expect to find it.

I'm sure it seems that most rich people are unhappy, it's what makes the news plus it's a good story with a great moral. More than likely most rich people are probably happy.

It's not true. It's just that unhappy rich people are easy to spot!. There are only happy people and miserable people, wealth has little to do with it. I know lots of happy and lots of miserable poor people. I also know lots of happy and lots of miserable rich people. I myself used to be poor & happy, and now I'm quite wealthy and I'm the same amount of happy, more or less. (I might be a little happier, but that has more to do with being lucky enough to be married to my very best friend than anything else).
All that philosophical guff aside, I think it was Dr.Randolph Newman who said "Money can't by happiness, it's true, but it'll buy you a 16-yr-old girl and a halfpound bag of cocaine....It's money that I love...."

I don't think this is a rich person problem. I actually don't think its a problem in the first place (I'm curious where your "so many" assertion comes from). Whether people are happy depends on things other than money--I tend to get the feeling that most people are happy with their lives. Those who aren't usually take steps to change that.
But if what you say is true, its true across the board, regardless of income.

To live for the love of money is the same thing as worshiping another god, which God tells us not to do. That is why the love of money is the root of evil.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
This scripture tells the truth about money being the root of evil and is the reason for many sorrows. Money will not make you happy. Money making someone happy is a lie told by satan who is the evil that money is the root of.

Yes it is a problem - plenty of people with money are totally f'd up and unhappy. My boyfriend grew up poor, and thinks that being wealthy is the solution to everything. I however grew up in an upper middle class family, and know that my family and my friends families have had as many physical fights, affairs, and just f'd up stuff in general as anyone.

Money can't buy happiness and contentment. Money is the root of all evil. If you need it, you ain't got it. If you've got it, you want more of it. There are other things more valuable than money, such as health, family, friendships, freedom, love and understanding. Wealth does not insure any of these basic needs.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said that the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the hear filled with hearing. Greed creates sorrow because greed can never be satisfied. Paul tells us to be content with what God provides us.

We live in a material world and people like saving up to buy material things. When you have money and you can buy anything you want the material world becomes less exciting cause you have nothing to work for. Joy comes from God

Because super "rich" people are never satisfied. I think it would be nice to just have like 300 grand. You know pay for an average house...a nice car...and pay off my school loans. I don't have a problem working to maintain it all, but getting that kind of head start would make me happy...at least temporarily.
