Last night my daughter woke up crying in the middle of the night which is rare because she never wakes up crying. When I went to go check on her, she was really cold. I checked her temperature and she was 94 degrees. We covered her well and got her body temperature back up. Well this morning when she woke up she was burning up with fever. I tried to take her temperature through her rectum and she fought me, it only had time to reach 99 degrees. I checked through her ear and it was over 101 degrees. I know that I should take her to the clinic but since we moved to this city not too long ago she doesnt have a doctor yet and noone will see her for another week. What could happen if she was cold yesturday and hot today? What could be wrong?

Honey almost anything can cause a fever and chills. most likely is a cold or ear infection, possibly the flu. Just keep her warm and hydrated and anything she will eat. I am the mother of 4 grown kids and 10 grandchildren, and I have worked in the health field all my life. If the fever doesnt go away in a few days or gets higher than 101, put her in a tub of cool water and that will bring the temp. down. a fever reducer will help. if it is a cold she will start coughing and you will hear the congestion. If it is an ear ache, she will pull at her ears. Hope this helps.

Try keeping her temperature under control by giving her tylenol and putting some wet towels on her forehead. IT could be because of a virus.

If she becomes too sleepy, withdrawn or has trouble breathing, or her temperature is over 100 degrees, take her to the ER immediatly. Don´t worry about insurance or payment, you can fix that later, apply for financial aid at the hospital, but go ahead and schedule an apointment as well so that a doctor can follow up and meet your daughter for a future ocurrence.

First, don't panic - babies tend to run fevers more easily than adults. Calm yourself and think straight. It seems you are concerned because one time her temp. was low 94 and a few hours later over a hundred. This is not unusual, but still it is nothing to ignore. No one here on Yahoo can answer what could be wrong; not even those who work in the health field. It takes a exam to determine if something more than a cold, or ear infection is involved.

Most cities in America have Urgent Care Centers - go to one - tell them your situation and they will give you instant care and maybe even suggest a good Doctor for you to see.

I know this feels scary, it is good that you love your daughter so much. Above all stay calm and try not to get sick yourself she is going to need you more than ever in the next few days. Granny

The same thing happened with my son when he was 11mo old. We rushed to the emergency room and they couldn't tell us what it was, just to give him children's Motrin. After 2 days of 102.6 degree fever I took him to the pediatrician. The doctor who examined him said that he had a ear infection and prescribed him a antibiotic. Another 2 days after that I noticed on his chest, belly and back a rash, so I went to another pediatrician. Turned out that he had roseola, an inoffensive viral disease that only very young children get.
Now I am still mad on the doctor who prescribed him the antibiotic for no reason, because there was no ear infection at all.

She needs to go to the emergency room since a doctor won't see her. She shouldn't have a fever that high. Try to give her some baby tylenol to lower her temperature and take her to the hospital. If you let her have a fever too long it could be life threatening.

First off did you have this baby at your home in the bath tub? How can she "not have a doctor"? This is America not Somalia. And secondly, state law in all 50 states absolutely prevents a public health institution such as a hospital from denying services to ANYONE. If they do you can sue the hell out of them. Of course if you cannot PAY for the services afterward YOU may get sued yourself, but the actual services are required by law to be rendered in ALL 50 states. Of course, if you actually do live in Somalia and used natural childbirth then you might as well just pray.

Take her to the ER ASAP. My 16 month old had a 101 under arm and at the ER it was 103.6. She ended up having a really bad ear infection. She's fine now but don't wait. As someone else said new to town or not the ER can NOT turn you away! When in doubt take them in.

Sounds like she has a virues! Does she go to a daycare or around other kids in a park? Take her to the ER and have her seen. Give her Motrin and make sure to give her apple juice and Chicken noodle soup! Keep Ginger Ale around too to settle her tummy if she ends up throwing up! Give her lots of Love and Hugs! Good Luck!

I would strongly suggest you take her to an urgent care center. They'll be able to see her right away. Urgent care is faster than waiting to get an appointment with a specific doctor and a much better alternative to the emergency room.
