I am 35 years old and have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I take Methotrexate and Plaquenil and also a prescription Folic Acid supplement. My hair is falling out in bunches and I'm literally going bald. Is there anything I can do to promote hair regrowth?

I should add that I've tried Nioxin and that didn't work and I was told that Rogaine might work but as soon as you quit using it, the hair just falls back out...but I'm almost willing to try it anyway! What have I got to lose!?

there are several products that are sold in beauty salons that strengthen the hair folicules. Shampoos and creams. I do not know for certain if this will help, as it seems your hair loss is caused by the medication you are taking. stimulating your scalp (brushing gently, massaging) also encourages growth. You might want to talk to your Dr. about it, as there may be a medication that helps negate the effects of the medication you are taking.

Scalp massages help to stimulate growth. Maybe you should also try Rogaine or some other treatment like that, but I would ask your doctor first because they might not mix well with your other medications.

Methotrexate only did that to me at the beginning... I don't know how to fix it but get a silk/satin pillowcase so less hair gets pulled out at night, at least to slow the loss. also, maybe more folic acid or lower mtx?

Sorry to hear about your problem. If it's the mendication which is causing this then stopping the meds would reverse the side effects but then you would not your treatment. Perhaps you should speak to your doctor. Best wishes.

Sounds odd but cow manure massaged into the scalp everyday will stimulate hair growth.

Maybe try additional vitamins; but what would really work is prenatal vitamins.
