Take vitamin C supplements and stay away from antibiotics unless absolutely nesessary. People tend to go get a prescription for them at the first sign of sickness. Truth is, antibiotics can do absolutely nothing for a virus, like the common cold. They only clear up infections, and even then, if you use them regularly, your body desides it no longer needs to build up its own defenses, and then becomes immune to the antibiotics, and you will find that you get sick more often and the drugs no longer are effective. When you think you need them, try and go two extra days without them, usually the body will fight and you will get over it on your own. So the next time this particular sickness comes around, your body recognizes it because it has built up its own antibodies for it, and you wont even get it.

a good multi vitamin helps, make sure you get one that is gender specific becuase men and women have different requirements for their daily vitamins, its more about what you shouldn't have, for instance, its bad for men to get too much iron with their multi vitamin so theirs don't usually get added iron.
Eat lots of garlic or take garlic pills if you don't want to smell like it all the time. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Drink lots and lots of water, several liters per day. Ginger is really good for you too, you can cut up peices of it and throw it in with some mint or lemon tea. You can also cook with it whenever the meal is appropriate, like stir fry's or soups or deserts. Get enough sleep, 8 hours is whats recomended. Get regular exercise, a 45 minute or 1 hour walk every morning before you take a shower is enough if you don't want to jump right into a rigorous work out routine. My mother is 58 and started walking every morning about 2 or 3 years ago and not only did she lose a bunch of weight and looks younger, she visibly has more bounce in her step. It was amazing seeing her after I had been away a few months. If you do those things already, I would say get into swimming or running or cycling, I find them all fun and the feeling after a good run is fantastic, your whole day is made afterwards.
Good luck, and have a good one.
