My little 8 year old was the clumsiest child, ending up in the doctors office on may occasions.... for example of only one instance - he had a broken nose at 2 years old from falling, which can't even be repaired until he is 16 years old. I will tell you this, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Make sure his shoes fit properly, make sure his ears are not bothering him and make sure his eye sight is good and if that isn't the problem, then he is just a little clumsy guy. My Brandon grew out of this stage when he was about 5. Now he is very precise when using his mobile skills. From all of the experience of falls, he is also my very careful boy, as for my oldest whom was never clumsy is now a daredevil! Good luck moms, your child (not sure if it's a boy or girl, sorry) will be fine.

Here's your mate!!! My little girl does it but she has just been diagnosed as autistic, and lack of spatial awareness is part of it.
Could be: eye defect, dyspraxia, autism, delayed motor skills, lots of things and it could also be nothing. I have a brother who at 35 is still the clumsiest person I have ever met!!!
If I was you I would start with the Health Visitor, they should have picked it up at 18/24 month check really, but he's due a 3 year old one isn't he? So just say you are bit concerned seems to be clumsy, and she will probably refer for an eye check in the first instance.
If it's dyspraxia, they are generally clumsy, you know spilling cups, dropping plates. My girl cannot walk around with a plate of food, it all just falls off, and cannot use fork and spoon.
If it's purely that he is clumsy and falling over lots, then it's probably nothing to worry about too much

My son use to trip over blocks of air. Get his hearing tested because he could have an inner ear infection or hearing loss, My son also had Narcolepsy. It's where your body does not know how to "fall" asleep or drift off it just goes to sleep, and the child will go down for like 20 Min's but not realize he did, get him check by a doc.

Hi, when my son was 2 years he was much the same and we kept blaming his shoes. Over the next year we spent a fortune on shoes for him thinking they were to blame.
A friend of ours said they had the same problem and their child needed glasses.
We thought we may as well try an optician just to eliminate any doubt about his eyesight.
You guessed it - he needed glasses and quite a strong prescription too.
My advice to you is get an eye test done - it is free and won't do any harm. If they don't need glasses then brill but if they do - better to get it sorted while they are young
Good luck

I know this might sound silly but, in my experience clumsy children are very acedemic (excuse the spelling) it has been proven right 99.8%. I have 5 children the eldest and 2nd from youngest (12 & 6) are extremly clumsy yet they excel at school. It is nothing to worry about.

Hi,
I'm sure he will grow out of it.
If the problem persists - and his teachers notice it when he's started school - then ask a doctor to check for things like dyspraxia.
It could be a simple case of "Cross Dominance" ie. having a dominant left eye but being right handed (or vice-versa) which causes co-ordiantion problems.
BTW, I'm super clumsy and seven times older than your son!

Have you had his hearing and eyesight checked, has he been checked for an ataxic gait or similar. Some kids are just clumsy, but it can be the sign of deeper rooted problems, have him checked out by GP, particularly for glue ear, ear infections etc they have a great effect on balance.

Oh, my gosh, my daughter was just like this. And yes, she has grown out of it (she's almost 5 now), though I have to say she is still more accident prone than my others because she just doesn't think, and doesn't pay attention. For example she got this scary looking cut across her NECK because she was riding her bike while the rest of us were trying to get a kite up the air, and she didn't watch for the kite string and rode right into it! Geez!

Boys at three always seem to be fighting gravity, My son is five now and is still coming up against it from time to time. I wouldn't worry however if you are check with his Doctor it could be an inner ear problem causing him to be off balanced, have them check his legs too I had my sons checked and they will check them again when hes 6 that's when legs will be as straight as they are going to be..until then keep lots of band aids and ice on hand and enjoy him..Good Luck

if he just falls a lot it is probably the usual childlike hurry to do things too fast, but if he is clumsy in other ways like knocking things over of dropping things he does need to be checked out just in case of dyspraxia.
