I am not against disposables, I just am trying something new..I found fitted cloth and they look just the same as the others, I also had lots of diaper rash with the first and i want to trade between the cloth while we are at home and disposables when we go out..

I use Arm & Hammer detergent on my diapers.

Just to let you know, I'm incontinent and wear diaper 24 / 7 for medical reasons. I wear cloth diapers all the time except, like you suggested, when I'm traveling.

I have to wash two loads a week and a box of detergent lasts quite awhile. I've never had a problem with my diapers coming clean or with them having an odor left over after they are washed, as if they really aren't clean. I work around a lot of people and I can't have issues with odors.

I don't use bleach or fabric softeners. The bleach can irritate the skin and actually cause diaper rash and the fabric softener will affect absorbency so that the diapers won't hold as much.

I'm pleased to hear that someone is willing to give cloth diapers a try. I hate the thought of putting paper, plastic and chemicals against a baby's skin, it really isn't healthy. Disposables cause diaper rash more frequently than cloth plus they are hot, sticky and uncomfortable. I think every parent should be made to wear disposable diapers 24 / 7 for two weeks just so they know what they are putting their baby through. Cloth is much softer and more comfortable and don't clog landfills.

Good luck with the diapers and congratulations on the baby.

Tide is a little tough on baby bottoms, but I agree that Dreft will NOT clean cloth diapers. Use your favorite detergent with bleach and put them through an extra rinse. Why do you object to disposable diapers? They are a God Send!! I used cloth ONE time - threw them away a few months later.

If you don't want to pay the price for Dreft, I would recommend Arm & Hammer Liquid Laundry Detergent, Perfume & Dye Free. We have used this detergent ever since our son was born, and we haven't had any problems with irritation. I'm not sure if it would be strong enough to get out the tough stains, but I'd be more worried about the baby's tushy. The only problem is it's a little hard to find. I've never seen it at Wal-Mart, but it's at our local grocery store.

I used all free and clear, with bleach and baking soda, added vinegar to the rinse and did a 2nd rinse cycle.
