Kill them with kindness. You can think whatever you want, but don't lower yourself to their level. In the end, politeness will make them feel even worse about themselves because they know what jerks they're being. Grown people acting like they're three years old....that'll sink in on some level, maybe even conscious level.

1. Always maintain a professional demeanor.

2. If the client tends to get rude, or even yells, bump the client up to the supervisor, or boss. That's what they are being paid for — to resolve very difficult issues that you do not have the authority to approach.

3. Never take the rude client personally. That is their disposition most likely with everyone they encounter. You just happened to be their lucky day to attack. Shake it off.

Good luck and warm regards.

You just have to pretend they aren't getting to you. It's not easy and I'm glad I don't have to do it anymore. It's really your only option if you don't want to risk your job. Maybe looking for a different type of work might be what you need to do. Something that doesn't cause you to have to deal with the public so much. It's always nice if you have a manager that will come up and stick up for you, but that's rare.

Just remain polite and upbeat. For about 75 percent of people, if you can manage to stay polite while they vent, they'll come back around, apologize, and be very pleasant to work with. Those other 25 percent will never be pleased anyway, but you'll feel better with yourself at the end of the day than if you matched them for their rudeness.

Most people who are rude or upset are upset about something at home, their relationship, or they got a bad case of the runs and now they are blaming poor innocent you.

People sometimes want a person they can scream at because phones, banks, are all automated nowadays and you can't scream or tell a computer to take a hike.

Hahaha...I know exactly what you mean. My advice is to always keep your composure and to shower them with kindness. It's been my experience that people turn their attitudes around when they encounter friendliness.

Besides, most unpleasant people KNOW that they are being jerks. They don't care how you feel. Try to take the high road and keep a smile on your face no matter what. Be friendly but firm.

Good luck!

Just remember, they are not being angry and rude directly at you, but to the company, or the company's policy, or the company's failure to fulfill services as promised. They are technically still being rude to you, but hopefully you can avoid taking it personally and try to sympathize with their suffering, see things from their point of view and try to be helpful to them...this usually defuses their anger a bit and also helps you to feel less attacked since you're "on their side."

Their are many books on this subject. If you can't or won't learn how to deal with the public, maybe you need to find another line of work. I've been there and it is not easy. Good luck.

Stay calm and pretend that they are not being rude.

When someone is angry, rude and demanding they are p***ed and want you to be as angry as they are. When they see that their actions do not cause a reaction with you, they will either walk away or change their tune.

disarm and defuse. find out why they're mad and for what reasons. then tell them what they want to hear and throw in a couple of apologies to boot. most people who complain in this fashion are too stupid to realize they are acting like baffoons. so, logic evades them at this stage and your primary concern is to calm them down so that SOME rational thought can enter their puny minds. if you can get them to this stage then the rest is a cake walk.
