Why do you believe there was a beginning? Our lives have a beginning and an end, but I know of no evidence that this assumption about the universe is valid.
It is possible the Universe is in an eternal process of expanding from the big band and at some point it could contract again in the Big Crunch.

In the beginning...... there was small germy microbeings that sarted to evolve... then all of a sudden bang there were dinosaurs and then ummm bang again and here are people. And those people told oral fables to there kids to make them behave and bang again somehow those oral fables became the story of the bible..... hmmmm thats the new abridged version as told by me! funny huh! (I never said I had all the answers)
