Try things that are multi-functional. Storage cubes that can be used as seating or end tables as well. Travel chest to keep things in and use as coffee table. A day bed that can double as seating during the day.
As for kitchen storage, I really suggest IKEA. I had the same problem with my college apartment, and they have many cheap, smart solutions for both kitchen and living space. You really don't have to spend a fortune to de-clutter a small space. ;)

- sell everything that you don't use/need and that's not of significant value to you
- does the kitchen not have drawers, or is there just no space? If it doesn't have drawers, then get cups to put the silverwear, utensils in. You could get large mason jars to put them in, and it'd look rather decorative.
Like someone else said, try to get multi-use things. If you can, free out cabinet space. Try and use lazy susans to put stuff on, if there's not a lot of counterspace so that you can keep things closer together without taking up as much space.
There are even tupperware sets that are stackable and fit on a lazy susan with interchangeable lids

I know your pain...A great tip that I used was anything I added to my space served a double purpose. For example: Ottomans for seating, or coffee table and storage inside. In the kitchen/dining i used a high table with a couple of bar stools. the table is where I can use my laptop, do bills....etc. I use magazine racks mounted on the wall to organize, bills and other papers. I also used an old shelving near my fridge to hold my coffee maker, mugs etc. I used a curtain in the front of it to hide the crap...it turned out really well....Check out Home to Go on HGTV...there are lots of tips like these

mini-size computer station, stack monitor on top of main computer box (brain) and buy small containers and turn them on their sides inside of dish cabinets to make aditional funtions of cabinet usage. also use a stool instead of a chair for the computer, that way you can have it completely pushed in and out of the walking space when not in use.

Use totes & cabinets made with multiple drawers in them..keep small items together in baskets rather than laying them around seperate..Store what you use the least & keep daily use things handy..
