for the most part won't learn english and then live off the system, but immigrants from other countries will learn english and strive to make it as a productive member of society. I have many hispanic friends who all agree w/me so it's not just me. They hate how almost all puerto ricans who live in the orlando area are on foodstamps, wic and section 8 and give the few decent ones a bad name. Then they want the national anthem sung in SPANISH?! C'mon. It's so getting out of control!

For goodness sake Chris L, don't put words in my mouth. Read the question before you answer.

To the mexicans who got offended about the "productive member of society comment", I said puerto ricans, not mexicans. I know mexicans work hard. I live in Florida. I see many of them doing construction, orange picking, landscaping, lots of hard manual work. Once again, I stress those who are from Puerto Rico.

I agree and it's happening where I live also. I guess they think America owes them something?
Don't be offended by the people who say youre singling the hispanics out. You're not. They single themselves out. Atleast you took the time to say "most" and not all. I agree they are not all that way, but the majority that reside in this city are. If they don't want people saying they are that way, then they shouldn't be that way.

I can see what you are talking about. Most of the Hispanics in My area are Puerto Ricans. I live in eastern Pa only 80 miles from NY. The have not contributed anything to our state or town. They came here from NY because they know that Pa is much more generous than NY when it comes to social services. It is also better to live in the Ghetto of my town than to live in the Slums of NY. They are a dirty people. The part of town where they took over is littered and they don't care. They think is is acceptable to have kids out of wedlock. The local high school where my friend is an assistant principal, says there are dozens of pregnant girls in each grade that are proudly showing their pregnant bellies. There are two day cares in the school that are packed. This is all on the poor middle class hard working tax dollars. They have made it hard to be Hispanic in my town. My husband was born Honduran (and now a citizen) and is embarrassed by the P.R.s. He makes sure that everyone know he isn't one of them.

First of all its not just Hispanics who live off the system its all races. For the most part Hispanics have the crappiest jobs the ones that pay less the jobs no one wants, at least they aren't out on the corners begging for money to get drunk they are decent enough to go look for a job. Seriously they don't learn English because most of them can't even read and write in their own language, that's why they came to the US to give their children's a better life even if that means living off the government. Seriously your Hispanic friends should stop hating on their own race.

In some part I agree... BUT, I my self am hispanic ( Mexican ) what other hispanics do should not mark the rest . My family has been living here for many many years... and not once has my father not worked to support his family... Not once were we on food stamps or any government prog. to help us out...My father has been a hard working man... to provide for his fam. Never had my mother work, because he always believed that a man should take care of the household... My father is going to be 61. and he is finally going to retire.. after all these years of hard work...... I think that their are some Hispanics that deserve credit for that don't you????

for the most part your statement is not true nost of the illegal immigrants that i know including family and my mom try to learn english they might alot of times dont speak very well (just like chinese, africans, and alot of others) but they most of the time understand it and we do strive to make the best out of our lives and about the national anthem every mexican i know agrees that that was wrong the thing about the national anthem was not even an idea of a latino hispanic or mexican i forgot what nationality that men was and the singers in no way represent what mexicans whant because there artist all they wanted was attention to help them sell for cd's

lets talk about all the white americans who are on food stamps, wic, section eight etc. are they being productive members of society? listen, welfare abuse is a "human problem" not a racial problem. Its always easier to blame someone else. all of the sudden when people bring up white america on wic, food stamps, section, etc it turns into a different situation. whats getting out of control is the "system" itself. If the gov't had better guidelines then welfare fraud would not be such a big problem. they take anyone who comes in without serious background, work, or earnings investigations. for goodness sakes, my neighbor is on wic, food stamps, tanf, etc and she and her husband work and she just bought a 2005 jaguar a few weeks ago(she is white). WTF! money comes out of my check every week to pay for her lying ***! if the govt wasn't giving them what they need it wouldnt be so easy for them to get it. we get mad because they enter illegally but once they are here the govt gives them work visas/permits. so in my opinion, the govt is contradicting themselves. they dont want them here, but they allow them to work. We gotta fix"UNCLE SAM" first then go down the line.

Why just the hispanics? Why don't you say the same thing about other races too? Also there are alot of whites that like to abuse the system.

Don't assume all Hispanics are the same. That shows some racism on your part. Grouping people together like that and forming opinions based on a small group is ignorant. I also know Hispanics born in Latin American countries that speak English very well, have college degrees, and contribute to our country probably more than you do.

I am Mexican/American. I was born here, my parents were not. They became legal, learned english and became very productive members of society without the gov. hand-outs.
But I do agree with you. Hispanics always come into my work or call and I hear the same thing..."Espeke spanish?"
Then when I tell them I don't they get irritated with ME even though they are in my country. If I moved to another non-english country I would'nt expect them to speak english. I would learn their language. But I think the U.S. has made it too easy for spanish speakers...they have no reason to learn english since everyone accomidates them.
Even product labels at the store are in spanish. It is so irritating.

They try to use the excuse that they "work too much" and "have no time" to learn. Funny, when my grandparents came here, my grandfather worked 60+ hours a week, and had to fix things around his home, and yet somehow found time to learn. My grandmother also worked, and had to do house stuff, and raise kids, and she learned.
I guess all are not really created equal, since some can and some can't.
