Interesting, "foreign" flavour desired, not a tourist destination. Cost? Crime? Language? Guest Houses?

Thanks!

Aruba. You can stay at the The Blue Village (not expensive). Eat at Chinese restaurants ($5 a meal). Go about by bus ($1).The Blue Village has a sort of Dutch flavor to it. Aruba is of course a very safe island. The locals are easygoing and friendly. They are a laid back kind of people and tend to just give you your space to do whatever your thing is. Four different languages are spoken (English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento). The beaches are public. You don't have to pack much either as you'll be spending much of your time on the beach, so Bermuda's and T-shirts and you'll all set.
