Yep! Give him dry baths with Colgate Men's shaving foam..just the old fashioned kind..Rub it in his coat, and wipe him dry with a towel..It sure worked for my pug..and kept his coat soft and healthy...Also, don't feed kibble with corn or soy..they both enhance the problem

You should first stop bathing your pug so much. The soap your using (even if it is recommended for dogs) can really dry out your pugs skin. You should probably talk with your vet about the smell, because generally pugs are pretty clean dogs. They will be able to come up with the best solution.
In the meantime, check your dog out yourself. He may have a skin infection that is creating the smell. Also, check his ears and skin folds to see if there is any gunk. Sometimes this can cause a pug to smell. Check his mouth as well and try brushing his teeth with a doggy toothpaste and brush.
Is your dog gassy? Or, I know it sounds gross, but maybe he is eating poop or kitty litter. Some dogs do and that smells horrible. If any of these apply, you might want to look into changing his diet.

Plug your nose. Lol.
That's the only way, sometimes, to keep some dogs from stinking.
You can, however, buy topical scented shampoos. You can't bathe a dog two times a week, he will get skin disorders. No more bathing that often. Once a month is recommended by vets/groomers.
Last, it may not be his skin that is stinking. He may have anal glands that have flared up and need to be squeezed/excized, and most groomers will do this for about $15. They reak to high heaven...our own dog suffers from salmon smells once a month. It is his problem also.
It could be a digestive problem or in the mouth, teeth area also. He may have stomach disorders or teeth problems.
Take him to the vet. They will determine where the smell is coming from, if you don't have success with anal gland squeezing.
Good luck.

First of all, it sounds like you're bathing the dog way too much. Most dogs only need a bath about once a month (uness they're filthy or have rolled in something they shouldn't have).
Usually, if a dog's coat "stinks" even after bathing it has a skin condition like psorisis, or is having an allergic reaction to something (the dog's body is fighting something you can't see, and the skin-smell is a symptom of that battle).
We recommend taking the dog to a vet to get a "skin scrape" test to find out what's at the bottom of his problem. A solution might be something as simple as changing his diet, but you won't know for sure if you don't get him checked out.

Twice per week is far to often to bathe a dog.
I am suprised he does not have skin problems.
Try having his teeth cleaned as much of the funky odor can come from the mouth of a dog. Other than that try only bathing about once per month. Body mist spray in between times?

Yes that's to much. I gave my Rottweiler a bath once a month or so. I brush her why she is in the bath because it calms her down. She ha her last bath 2 weeks ago an still smells good. It can irritate her skin

My pug is almost 2 years old and we bathe her maybe every 3 months, or if she has been in a lake or a pond. She always smells great, so I would suggest visiting the vet. Also, can you describe the smell he is emitting? Maybe he's gassy. Do you feed him table scraps?

you actually may be bathing him too much. too much detergent on a pugs skin can stimulate oil glands and produce a funky smell.
try once a week baths with a rub down of powder (made especially for dogs) in between.

You should take him to a vet as he might possibly have a skin disorder which may be causing the odor.
Also, you are definitely stripping precious oils out of his fur and skin by bathing him so often. I would stop bathing him and call the vet.

Well, with our dog it was his glands in his anus. Its almost like a musk sac for dogs. They can get too filled up, and when they do there is NOTHING you can do for the smell, other than taking him to the vet, or some willing groomer, to have the sacs emptied out. A STRONG WORD TO THE WISE........I do not have a weak stomach, however, when I brought my dog in and asked about this the vet told me what it was and without preparing me sqeezed thats stuff right on out in front of me. If your the least sensitive, you DO NOT want to be in the room. I had babies and cleaned up after plenty of ilnesses, mucked impacted horse stalls, and cleaned horse hooves..............NONE of those knocked me flat on my butt like those sacs being cleaned out. Its the only time I've been in the room for it. It may not be bad everytime, and every dog may not smell as bad as mine, but unless you really want to know......ask to step out of the room!
