It would help to know if you have fine, or thick hair, and if you dye it or not.

Do all of these if you want to keep it healthy:

Make sure you wash with a really good shampoo, and use some deep conditioner just to keep it healthy. Try every 2 weeks using conditioning shots. You can do it yourself, or at a salon. It's not that expensive.
NEVER straighten your hair when wet, even if it's a little. Make sure it's dry.
If you decide to blowdry your hair (blowdrying will damage your hair for sure), use salon serum before you blowdry. Can cost anywhere from 20 -60ish?? But it will last you almost a year if you use it properly!
Then, apply more serum before straightening. Keeps it from burning and damaging.

Some shampoos, conditioners and serums that are good: Redken Products, Frizz-Eaze, Joico, Pantene Pro-V (Deep Conditioner)

There's a few more, but I can't remember them at the moment.

I flat Iron my hair twice a week also. I use the Garnier Fructis (I probably spelt that wrong) conditioner treament that you leave in for like five minutes, I use it once a week, its the one in the little green jar. That jar last me about a month and I have really long hair. I like it because it works really good and its not expensive. Keep getting your hair trimmed every six weeks that helps alot too.

Make sure you get it trimmed regularly. It seems counter-intuitive, but by trimming off the dead ends, it will make it look and feel healthier, as well as help it to grow more. Also-make sure it doesn't get too dry. There are lots of things we do to our hair to damage it... swimming (chlorine), sun damage, coloring, blow drying, curling, straightening. It's a wonder we're not all bald!
