Use Brown shelving, baskets made of natural materials for storage. Or Paint the wall brown with natural wood fixtures. Stainless steel is also a masculine touch. Check out West Elm online they have a great contemporary look, perfect for a single male. I added brown tables and ottomans to my place and they played off of my navy blue couch, punched up with some orange and light blue pillows. Have fun!

The first poster has a good idea. HGTV will help. If you don't have cable, stop in to your local big-box hardware store and go to the Paint and Home Decor departments. There are color books that have ideas in them, also if you bring along pictures of the rooms you wanna decorate, they may be able to throw some interesting and cool ideas your way too, if they are the creative sort. I know, I was one of those creative sort paint desk people whom helped people decorate their homes for like, 5 years. At least go grab some of those free color sample books, Lowe's has them in their Valspar and Signature lines, Home depot has a few in their Behr line. There are also huge magazine and book racks there with decorating ideas, go flip through a few. That will give you a hell of a good start.

Check allposters.com and get a picture with a nice mat and frame. They will deliver right to your house. Stay away from fads like current movies or sports teams. I'd go for a nice picture/painting of a landscape or sunset over a mountain. Nature pics are always good. Also important to match the color in the painting with the color of the wall.

BS, I'm a guy, and don't like big empty spaces. But it's not up to you to decide what kind of "clutter" to fill his apt with, as it depends on his personality. I suggest you look at magazines to find pics of rooms and "atmospheres" that you think a guy might like. Don't go for bright colors, and don't mix styles.

Black & white photography or posters in matching frames,or different shaped frames...
The photos/posters should reflect his interests or family members(women love that touch)..
Add track- lighting along the top of the wall to accent the pictures..
To add a splash of color you can add hanging plants nearby or frame a picture or two with a thin wall border (surrounding it)...
good luck!

Decorate it together. A little feminine touch is OK, because it should appeal to the many whores he will bring home to shag. But make sure it has the things he wants.

Keep it simple and easy to clean, do not add much frilly stuff or clutter. Check out the Japanese style, as it very nice yet elegant.
