My son has a pair he was given for his 8th birthday. While I would not buy them for him, I don't mind him having them. I read someone said something about the kids being lazy, I think it's the exact opposite. The kids enjoy the shoes and they go outside and play the way it's meant to be, not pen themselves up in the house playing x-box and the like.

As for shopping centers etc... That's such a fine line because all it takes is one child being irresponsible and knocking someone over because they're not paying attention (I know the shock, children irresponsible?) As for schools, I don't think so, there is already too much going on in the hallways with the tons of kids there to add to the mix.

I used to work for a store that sold these. There was a little girl (8 or9) that got some. Next day her mom came back in to return them. THe girl didn't get 10 ft before a wheel broke off and she fell and broke her foot in 3 places! (she showed me the xray) Before that I'd never really liked the idea of them b/c they never seemed that sturdy (any brand I'd seen) After that I definetly would never get them for my kids. Skates or rollerblades would be no problem but not skate shoes. For me it's because I've never seen any that were that great a quality. And I don't think that kids should be skating in shopping centers or at school. It causes a hazard for other people and a distraction at school.

Absolutely not. In my opionion, skate shoes are SKATES and should only be worn when it is appropriate to skate. You wouldn't allow your children to strap on a pair of roller blades in the morning and head to school, or the mall or out to run errands would you? Of course not. Kids combat this with "But they're shoes, they look just like shoes!" Yes, and skates from the 70s did as well but it was not acceptable to wear them indoors either.

Skate "shoes" are fine at the park, but are not a substitute for traditional shoes elsewhere.

I hate them.. I am a mom of five and I'm all for kids having fun, but I can't count the nmber of times I've almost been run down by kids on skate shoes.. The bigger question should be.. "why are parents allowing their kids to act like monsters on these skates in public places"?

It's cool as LONG as they don't damage the wood floors in my house and the kids don't run over other people.

Actually I think that would have to be an outside deal. Malls and public shopping centers are too crowded and it would be a distraction at school I think.

I thought the idea of those shoes were crazy. And my daughter is dying for a pair... I see a lot of kids wearing them everywhere we go which makes my daughter want them more and more... If I were to buy her a pair she would not wear them to school and I would only allow her to wear them depending on where we are going.

Stores here where I live refuse to sell them! They are dangerous and many kids have been hurt on them! Schools do not allow them here either. Because if the child should happen to fall they could hurt someone else and themselves. I see kids with them on in the mall and stores and that is because their parents bought them on the Internet! They are not safe and no kids should have them!!

My son has been asking for them and he will get some for his 9th birthday. I would prefer that he rollerbladed to school. Heely's are kinda wimpy. We may or may not allow him to wear them on the way to school. School allows them, but the wheels have to be put in when they get to class.

I think that Heely's are ok indoors for older children who have self control. All the kids I have seen in the shopping mall were very respectful and on top of it. It's not lazy. It's just fun.

skate shoes should be allowed in public centers but not used. if the noise or having to chase after kids is a big problem don't buy them any or try buying the heilis (they only have one wheel)

I can see where you're coming from......I'd say that if you buy them, only use them, ya know, when you actually need them, not going around school or the mall, that's just as bad as roller skating there. Besides, when you walk, they can make loud clunk noises (only certain ones), and they're just kinda dangerous to use in such public places.
Just make sure that if you let your child wear them, you know they're responsible.
