I'm am asking this question to challenge other believers to think about these things from a biblical perspective. Regarding Christians and rights...I understand that we are to abide by the laws of the land, but what about when the laws of the land contradict the laws of God? Also, isn't the surrendering of one's earthly rights for the sake of living for JESUS the basic foundation of Christianity?

James 4:4,7
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God...
Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Regarding politics. If we put our faith in trust in the Lord, and HE is our provider, why the political involvement? How do you know if the candidate elect is of God?

How do worldly organizations fit into the Christian faith? Refer to the previously posted scripture. What do these organizations stand for? If it's not Jesus, what is our place in them?

Sororities and fraternities are secret society--that you PLEDGE. It takes such a long and arduous study for me to dissect that, but I'll try. First, you have to understand the symbolism of lifted hands. It is symbolic of worship. When you take an OATH, you are DEVOTING yourself to the thing--and in a submissive posture of worship. In PLEDGING, you are giving of yourself and PROMISING to do what the organization is doing. As Christians, we are covenant (promise) keepers ("he that sweareth to His own hurt and changeth not" Psalm 15:4). So who are you making covenant with other than The Lord?

Psalm 81:9
There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

Exodus 34:14
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

I don't think that believers who join these organizations are deliberate. I think it's a matter of not knowing or not really thinking about it that way.

What are your thoughts?

Yea, what do sororities and fraternities have to do with this?

If you're implying that you can't be in a sorority/fraternity and be a Christian then you're dead wrong. I am a Christian, and a proud sister of Tri-Sigma. I swore on the Bible the day I was initated that I would love each of those girls as my true sister, and treat them as such.

Sororities and fraternities stereotypically have the reputation of being drunks, druggies, and having sex out of wedlock wayyyyy to often. However, it's just that...a STEREOTYPE. Not all sorority and fraternity members are like that. I didn't start drinking with my sisters until right before I turned 21, and I'm saving myself until marriage. A righteous sorority/fraternity member is harder to find at a big school, but they DO EXIST. I went to a small school, and joined a sorority in the spring of my freshman year. I tried to continue attending FCA as I had in the fall, but had been told that " I changed," and was made not to feel welcome there.

Being in Sigma made me a stronger Christian. My patience was tested with some of my sisters, and with others I could share true fellowship, and learn about their beliefs. When I took my Sigma vow, I swore to be true to Sigma, but only behind my allegiance to GOD (first) and then my family.

I don't mean to attack you, it just drives me up a wall when people think that sorority girls and fraternity guys are drunks and all, and can't possibly be a Christian. One of my best frat buddies is a youth minister. I just hate stereotypes, especially this one.

We are to follow God's law at all times, and if that law is in conflict with the laws of the land, we are to follow God's law regardless of the consequences. As for belonging to 'societies' these are usually of the secretive type and we are not to have anything to do with them. Politics, Ever read Rom 3:23? This is speaking of corporate sin, when we elect someone to office, we are just as responsible for their sins as they are, so be careful who you vote for. The only way to know if anyone is 'for' God is to look closely at their lives, do they follow the 10 commandments? All of them? Are they a devout follower of Jesus Christ? Do they exemplified His life? If the answer to all of these questions is 'Yes', then you can be sure that they are 'of God'.

Bible says that God sets up and tears down kingdoms. It's all a question of how much you believe He is in control. So did he allow an evil leader to be put in place for a reason that would be unfolded only to people 300 years from now? Who knows, but we have to put all our trust in a loving Father who knows all from the end to the begining.

In regards to getting involved, simple, obey! If God tells you to vote....obey! If God tells you not to vote......obey!
