I've just been wondering, why is the Christian faith so targeted by so-called comedians, and yet other religions are left well alone, in particular the Muslim faith. Surely a little joke aimed at your religion should be taken as a joke.
Similarly, why don't Christians stand up for themselves- Muslims/Sikhs/Hindus would not stand for any blasphemous remark, so why do Christians.

We can take it. We don't have a history of being oppressed by a bunch of greedy, self righteous white people who ridicule us as they steal our resources and try to eliminate our culture. Comedians make fun of us and other people hate us. We love them and they don't really understand us. We also need to be the example and thus the light that acts as the beacon to bring people to God.

It's kind of like at school. How do you get rid of a bully, ignore him. Where in a free country and people can voice their opinions. We don't have to like it, but we have to respect others opions to voice it. What we can do is take a proactive stance. If for example a certain actor is constantly quoted making blasphemous remarks, don't support that person by buying a ticket to their movies or rentals. And the Christian community needs to couter with positive messages. Christians have been a target since Christ. Trials like that make us grow stronger in our faith.

For a joke to be funny you have to know a little about the subject, numerically speaking most people round the world know a little about christianity. Secondly, if you are telling a joke make sure you are incuding yourself in this joke: a black person telling black jokes will be seen as more acceptable by the majority than black jokes told by a white guy; similarly Muslims can joke more easily about their faith than, for example, Judaism which would be seen as inciteful. Just to labour the point - guy in wheelchair telling wheelchair jokes - acceptable; able person telling disabled jokes - not acceptable. Of course there are exceptions and i refer more to mainstream public as opposed to among friends or likeminded people.

1. Christians are the majority. When youre the majority and therefore not an oppressed minority, you have to take a little guff and live with it.
2. If you cant laugh at yourself, it's a sure bet that everyone else is going to laugh at you.
3. Comedians make fun of that which surrounds them. In this case, Christians.

Well when comedians make a joke about a politcal leader, they don't make it about the president of Switzerland, the make it about Bush, the most powerful in the world. Christianity is the biggest religion in the world, so it gets a lot of attention.
Plus tbh most Chirstians are only that because thier parents drilled it into them and they are terrified if they question it for a second they will burn in 'hell'

This is a great point! I am a devote christian and I don't mind people laughing about religion. I watch Family Guy and laugh at the jokes on there. As long as you are firm in your faith this really shouldn't bother you.

Perhaps because Christianity is the most 'way out' and far fetched religion there is in existence, they have very little to produce in the way of any logical argument, I think all religions are complete BS, but Christianity is completely beyond all belief!.

We're seen as an "easy target" because many non-Christians know we're not supposed to fight back when we're maligned or persecuted.

Frankly, I think comedians leave Mohammad and Islam jokes off the list because of fear.

Peace.

Heb 10:29 how much worse punishment do you think will be thought worthy to receive, the one trampling the Son of God, and having counted common the blood of the covenant in which he was sanctified, and having insulted the Spirit of Grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know Him who has said, "Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay," says the Lord.

When we do, we are called intolerant, ignorant, against free speech, yadda, yadda, yadda. What should we do? Blow up buildings, declare Jihad on anyone who insults us? No, we just allow God to take care of it, He does a much better job than we could.

I think it is because of the peace many of us have with our beliefs. It is not a matter of standing up for ourselves. I grew up when, " . . . words can never hurt me."

Joke away. Personally I loved No Strings Attached from Carlos Mencia. He says about two women watching The Passions movie - they were crying, he says to them it's a happy time ladies, didn't you read the book?
